Default IND: Joints for Justice

Joints for Justice
Khalsa News Network | 04/07/2005

ShakeItUpBaby.com has announced a new campaign called “Joints for Justice.” The goal is to foster awareness of the Supreme Court's decision to review medical marijuana laws as passed by the States.

The High Court’s timing has taken an interesting twist now that Chief Justice Rehnquist is undergoing chemotherapy for thyroid cancer. Finally, someone with a real need for this therapy will actually have a vote on its future. Justice Rehnquist’s illness presents a once in a lifetime opportunity. If his own condition is helped by medical marijuana, he might influence others on the court to follow his lead and lift the federal ban.

Since the Food and Drug Administration is the only legal dispenser of marijuana in the country, ShakeItUpBaby.com is urging everyone to sign a petition urging FDA Director Lester Crawford to provide the Chief Justice one marijuana joint for his health and well-being, as well as for personal research on this vital subject. The petition is at http://www.ShakeItUpBaby.com.

The Chief Justice has spent the last month undergoing chemotherapy. He is, no doubt, suffering from nausea and loss of appetite, the symptoms that marijuana alleviates. We feel that his personal recovery may be enhanced by the use of medical marijuana thus providing compelling evidence as to its benefit. We also feel the resulting press coverage will further shed light on the medical necessity of marijuana.

This is not a joke. The National Academy of Sciences' Institute of Medicine, which was funded by the White House, declares marijuana to be one of the “safest therapeutically active substances known. No one has ever died from an overdose, and marijuana has a wide variety of therapeutic applications, including chronic pain, AIDs, glaucoma and multiple sclerosis.” Yet your sick neighbors are not getting the medicine they need.

I give this an "A" for effort, but, it is sad that the best we can do legally is get the FDA to provide the Chief Justice with a marijuana joint, filled with the low grade marijuana that the Federal government grows in Mississippi.

Therefore I give the entire idea an "F-" as far as reality goes, because if the Chief Justice were to receive marijuana legally from the Federal government, and try it out using the method suggested, his probably of getting an infection from it is really high. Legal marijuana provided by the Federal government for medical use or research, from most accounts I've read, is filled with sticks, seeds and stems as well as being weak, and cough-inducing. Why is this not supposed to be a joke, yet this important issue is not addressed?

To get the "safest theraputic value" possible from marijuana, he'd have to get a medicinal grade variety grown to exact organic specifications, and he'd have to consume it most likely in an expensive vaporizer like Angel Raich does.

The idea of giving him a "joint" of this stuff to smoke in his condition and at his age sounds to me like it would hurt him. So deep down I had to cringe reading the details of this article and looking at their website, and I hope those deciding on the case do not come across it.

wont matter if it can cure any disease or anything THEY WONT LEGALIZE IT for 1 simple reason. their making to much money off of pills and **** to legalize something thats not full of chemicals and that we can easily make ourselfs. its a pain killer it wont cure anything thats y i think they should legalize it and sell it themselfs in zen shops because its not a cure and theres no money in the cure. ALL THE MONEYS IN THE COMBACK and thats what its all about theres tons of comeback!!!! me and my roommate go through a quarter every 2 days and we keep coming back. they need to get placed in a giant room with minimal ventilation and fill that room with pot smoke till their eyes are as red the devil himself. and then we wont give them munchies till they legalize it. but thats just my opinion blahhhhhh. (just to c if ur still reading hahaha comp laughter is gae) and im fried out of my mind man.

There is no simple reason, there are other industries that face strong competition from cannabis and hemp. The medical industry as you mentioned, but what about fabrics and textiles, paper, timber, etc.?

More than economic competition (which is what started it), today the continuation of prohibition is part of the culture wars. Marijuana is associated with sex, drugs, rock'n'roll, hippies, communes, and the whole counterculture trip. The "traditional American values" crowd believes that any use of drugs that is not prescribed by a doctor is automatically "drug abuse". They have bought in to the propaganda. Because it's illegal they have no way of knowing that their doctor, their lawyer, and their kids' teacher all smoke pot recreationally. Pot smokers have to live in fear of being busted so they don't talk about it, except to other pot smokers. Except for medical users in med-pot states.

If this is the case then medical marijuana may be the avenue by which non-smokers are made aware that smokers are just like everybody else. When Uncle Joe, who has MS, doesn't become a degenerate atheistic child molester from smoking pot they'll realize that it's not a magic route to becoming part of a different culture. It's a recreational drug that has far less impact on it's users than alcohol.
