Default DC: Tell Congress to Oppose HR 1528

Tell Congress to Oppose HR 1528
Drug Policy Alliance | 05/11/2005

We're in the fight of our lives in Washington, DC. High-ranking members of Congress want to take the War on Drugs to a whole new level.

They want to increase penalties for every drug offense. They want a mandatory 2-year prison term for anyone who knows someone is selling marijuana on a college campus and fails to report it to the police within 24 hours. They want a mandatory 5-year prison term for someone at a party who passes a marijuana joint to someone who has been enrolled in drug treatment at some point in their life. They want to expand the federal "three strikes and you're out" law to include new offenses, including mandating life imprisonment (with no possibility of parole) for anyone convicted a third time under the RAVE Act.

Take Action Here

These and other horrible provisions are inside Congressman Sensenbrenner's H.R. 1528 entitled "Defending America's Most Vulnerable: Safe Access to Drug Treatment and Child Protection Act of 2005". You helped us derail this bill last year, but now it's back - and it's longer and more draconian.

I'm not going to lie, we're up against the most powerful forces in the federal government. We hope you will continue to stand with us in this massive showdown. Some of you have already taken action in key congressional districts and it's had an impact. Once on the fast track, the bill has stalled in committee. Drug war extremists are regrouping, however, and it's only a matter of time before they strike back. We need to keep the heat on members of Congress to kill this bill.

In short, we're up against Goliath. But, we have tens of thousands of "David's" like you on our side. If we all work together we can put up one hell of a fight and hopefully win.

This battle - one of our most important this year - is only the beginning. In four other areas the drug policy reform movement has launched offensives to target The Drug War establishment at its weak points. We're serious about taking down Goliath.

There are three things you can do today:

1) Urge your U.S. Representative to oppose this bill.

2) Contribute money to our campaign.

3) Forward this alert to your friends and family.

Watch your inbox for updates in the coming weeks on medical marijuana, the Higher Education Act drug provision, bureaucratic treatment regulations, and our campaign to rein in the federal Byrne grant program, which is perpetuating the drug war across the country. We really appreciate your continued support.

Default I am glad I left

I am really glad I left. As usual the mainstream media in the USA will either ignore this issue or support it as being something that "protects the children".

Here in France the govt. is doing a crackdown too. That means insead of just stealing your hash you may have to pay a 100 euro ticket too...the president, the justice minister and the health minister all said it is not correct to put drug users in jail and low level cannabis dealers are no longer supposed to get jail either.

Meanwhile in Spain you can grow and have your own, In Belgium you can grow and have your own, In Switzerland you can grow and have your own, in Germany some states let you grow and have, others give you a ticket, and in Italy (where having drugs is not illegal) a judge in Rome just clarified that growing cannabis for personal use is not illegal this month. England has a presumption against arrest officially (like we have in France unofficially) in addition many politicians in the Netherlands are sick of "tolerating" the coffee shops and instead want formal legalization of the production and trade of cannabis. Because of EU treaties such as the treaty of Nice and the Treaty of Maastrich if the Netherlands makes a law that says cannabis is legal to produce and sell (instead of illegal and tolerated as it is now) the cannabis trade would instantly become legal in all 25 European Union countries.

Canada still has prohibition (partly thanks to the US, but the laws are basically null and it is rare that anyone is ever convicted of possession in provices like British Columbia, or Ontario and recently a man who grew a field of cannabis in Quebec was found innocent in court because the judge said it is not illegal in Quebec.
Cannabis is legally grown and smoked in Alaska,
but no the Feds in Washington DC just want to put even more people in jail. They want to ruin the futures of more young people.

Default Thet ARE NUTS!

Anyone who helped the creation of such a bill or is in favor of it NEEDS to be physically removed from this country and NOT ever allowed back!
These people ARE crazy and actually NEED to be sent by spaceship into permanent orbit or live on the moon.

If such a bill becomes law it would mean that prisons would need to expand and make room for about 50 MILLION more prisoners! Do these idiots actually believe that the taxpayers of this country are going to pay for this prison expansion?! All the while....nearly EVERY family in America loses a member to such a ridiculous law? THEY ARE WACKED IN THE HEAD even coming up with such a bill and so is ANYONE who would vote for it or allow it to ever come close to law!

If such a bill EVER passes and becomes law.....LET THE REVOLT BEGIN!!!!!
Bloodbath in the streets....guaranteed! Our next "Civil War".
