| Cannabis Most Damaging To Young, Warns Judge Ireland On-Line | 05/12/2005 Cannabis use has done more to damage young people’s minds than other drugs, Judge Catherine Murphy said at the Dublin Children’s Court yesterday. Her comments came in the case of a south Dublin teenage youth, who had been convicted of breach of the peace charges. The court had heard that the teenage father of one, who had been involved in public order incidents in which he was confrontational towards gardaí, had psychiatric problems which were linked to cannabis use. His mother told the court her son is to see a psychiatrist over his problems and is to be assessed. The youth, now aged 18, but who was a juvenile when the offences were committed, was warned by Judge Murphy of the mental health dangers associated with cannabis use. The judge said that although many believe cannabis should be decriminalised it was the drug that did most harm to the young people who come before the Children’s Court, adding that it plays havoc with their minds. “I have come across a number of people who take cannabis regularly thinking there is no problem with that. Cannabis has done more to damage young people’s minds and general intellect than anything else I have seen in this court.” She said that she was concerned about the teenager’s psychiatric condition. “What I say to you is that your intake of cannabis on a regular basis is not good for your health,” she told the teenager who replied that he understood. The teenager was released on bail pending a probation report and to allow the teenager start psychiatric treatment. The case was adjourned until June 29 next.

| So cannabis is more damaging to youth than alcohol now? Do they honestly expect people to believe that? |

| It's not the parents fault, or genetics fault, or even the government's fault. It's simply cannabis? And of course, since it causes so much psychiatric trauma and ruins kids lives, we should be arresting people and throwing them in prison so they can get back on track. ![]() |

| cb007sax: And of course, since it causes so much psychiatric trauma and ruins kids lives, we should be arresting people and throwing them in prison so they can get back on track. Now your makin sense ;-) just kiddin, i know you were just bein sarcastic but it seems like that's how some of these politicians think and are actually serious about it lol. The court had heard that the teenage father of one, who had been involved in public order incidents in which he was confrontational towards gardaí, had psychiatric problems which were linked to cannabis use. Anyone else think about what i'm going to say? They link psychiatric problems to marijuana, but does anyone else here agree with me that maybe they already had psychiatric problems and then used marijuana to treat their problem? Now just because the problem gets to be know, they then find out the person uses pot and says, YUP the pot caused these problems The youth, now aged 18, but who was a juvenile when the offences were committed, was warned by Judge Murphy of the mental health dangers associated with cannabis use. Mental health dangers, these people probably had mental problems before using pot in the first place. This person is a judge, not a doctor. Them and these prosecutors just feed the same hearsay propaganda these drug czars and drug free commercials give to the public. Back in the 1800s it was said that marijuana was used to treat people who were depressed or insane. 1845: Dr. Jean-Jacques Moreau de Tours initiates the science of psycho-pharmacology in France, using cannabis to treat the insane and depressed. |
