Default GBR: Marijuana might cause brittle bones

Marijuana might cause brittle bones
5-23-2005 | United Press International

London, England, May. 23 (UPI) -- Researchers say a study suggests people who smoke excessive amounts of marijuana might suffer brittle bones in later life.

The study did not examine people who smoke cannabis, but, instead, focused on how natural cannabinoids attach to bone receptors in mice and adversely affected bone density.

"The work we've done would suggest that if you use a lot of cannabis it could stimulate bone-absorbing cells, and that would be bad," said Stuart Ralston who conducted the University of Aberdeen in Britain and later moved to the University of Edinburgh in Scotland.

"This is an important finding since it demonstrates that the receptors which cannabis acts upon are not only important in the nervous system, but also in the control of bone metabolism," Ralston told The Independent.

The findings appear online in the journal Nature Medicine.

Default what cannabinoids did it

which cannabinoids did it
THC
CBD , if it is not thc then high thc cannabis would again be proven healthier

how much cannabinoids were the mice given and what would the equivalent be for a human in grams per day of 7%thc cannabis?

how later is later in life, 10 years? 20? mice live what, 2 years?

were they synthetic cannabinoids or natural cannabinoids?

Default What about the Federal med-pot receiver who uses it for bone spurs?

There are no specifics given in this short article, maybe they throw a bone in the actual magazine article.

This is typical of the vagueness and mystery that is used to create an aura of danger around marijuana. That is until you start getting all the details, such as what type of THC was it (the injectable kind?), what type of marijuana did it come from, and what other cannabinoids were present (IF ANY.) Then the truth comes out.

As an aside, if they used US Federally grown marijuana which they do not disclose what the details of the strain are, or why there are sticks and stems in it, then this study is immediately null and void for most practical purposes.

Also why is no mention made of the US Federal medical marijuana recipient who uses marijuana to effectively treat his bone disease?

If you're a mouse and you get injected with far more cannabinoids than you could ever get by smoking this could be a real problem!
