Default OH: Marijuana Found At Elementary School

Marijuana Found At Elementary School
5-30-2005 | Amber Davison | WTAP News

The Washington County Sheriff's Department has discovered a single marijuana plant.

However, it's not the quantity, but rather the location where it was growing, that has parents upset.

Recess at Bartlett Elementary: children swinging, playing basketball and only a few feet away, a marijuana plant is growing.

Washington Co. Sheriff Larry Mincks says, "This could've been one plant or one of several. We do not know."

Mincks says a custodian noticed the plant on Wednesday and reported it to Principal Stephanie Starcher.

The sheriff's department was called out to destroy the plant and search for more like it.

Mike and Stephanie Sydenstricker live only one block away from the school.

The two have three girls. One is in 4th grade, the other two will be at Bartlett Elementary soon.

Stephanie says she is concerned over the discovery. "To have it in the area that close. And my girls are outside all the time."

Sheriff Mincks says this is not a natural-growing plant. He believes it was part of an indoor growing operation that someone had transferred. But who did it?

"I don't have an idea who would've done it, but it's hard to tell. There's all kinds of young kids (driving age) who are playing basketball," Mike Sydenstricker guesses.

"I would say it is probably someone who is familiar with the area. Because what they do after they move them outside is they have to be taken care of," says Sheriff Mincks.

The incident is still under investigation.

What, exactly, does that mean? Was it one plant or was it several? Counting is a basic skill, even for sheriffs.

I'll bet they sent the SWAT team for this dangerous assignment!

Hemp will grow wild almost anywhere in the continental US. There is no reason anyone would transplant from an indoor grow-op to outdoors. Expecially not within a few feet of a swing set in a public place.

They should get their crack forensic team out to the playground to check for bird droppings, the probable source for the seed of this plant.

Default not bird droppings, a joint roller

there were probably some teen agers who rolled a joint in the park and threw the seeds on the ground. I found small plants growing near a picnic table in the park where we used to smoke grass in high school, they got clipped every time the lawn mower passed but they were there.

Maybe some third grader is trying his luck at his first outdoor grow operation.
He knows he will be able to check out his plant regularly and cant wait for harvest time. LOL

Yeah....these cops are just stupid or naieve. Hemp and "ditchweed" are so common in many parts of the country. This single plant could have popped up without anyone planting it there or dropping a seed....even though it is a possibility.

There are fields of low-grade pot plants in Wisconsin....among many other places. I have seen acre after acre of it.....but trying to smoke it was definitely a WASTE of time. Nice to look at and IMAGINE...."what if's" though.

LoL, they needed the sheriff's dep just to go and rip the plant up The custodian could have did that himself and not even have had to report it. All that for just a plant.
