A congressman is most likely to be influenced by the people who will or who will not return him to office within the next two years.

You're right. One constituent's opinion is not going to have much influence. Who said it would? When thousands of constituents raise their voices and demand action from their elected representatives they listen quite well.

The way you talk we should just give up on democracy altogether.

Lobbiest only provide money -- for advertsing and campaign work which is basically...advertising.

It is still up to the Voter to cast that Golden Ticket.

Money talks...but VOTES make Elections...

BTW, every here of the *I TOKE & I VOTE CAMPAIGN*?

...little something I started up 4 years ago ---- Write *I TOKE & I VOTE* on a $1 or a $5 and send it with a leter to your favorite Elected or Poitician type person as a campaign donation. Donations are always logged-- as are the letters that arrive with them. Trust me on this one. And a real snail mail letter means more too. Costs you a $1.37 (or $5.37), plus your time and the ink and paper/envelope but your voice is heard...really heard.

We have only ONE WEEK before the Congress votes on providing the Justice Dpt. (FBI) with the funds it wants to go hunt sick people who smoke pot.

DO YOUR BIT !!!

*I TOKE & I VOTE* ... send the message.

...and have a cookie

Could you elaborate on the effectiveness of a letter?

Could you give me a link where I can start researching my "favorite Elected or Politician type person"?

Who is a congressman going to be more influenced by? The Lobbiest thats a close friend that he/she may have served with for years in Congress that represents a large campaign donor.. Or some random nameless person that sends an email/writes a letter or calls the office?
Understandable, but today I received a signed letter (not an email) from one of my reps, Joe Dunn, who wrote:
Quote:
Thank you very much for contacting me with regard to your support of medical marijuana use. United States Supreme Court today ruled 6 to 3 to enforce federal law prohibiting the therapeutic application of cannabis, thereby effectively trumping state law to the contrary.

I appreciate having received your comments on this important issue. I will certainly take your views into consideration when this legislation is introduced.

If I can be of further service please do not hesitate to contact me at either my district or Springfield office.
I wrote a signed letter (not an email) back to him saying this:
Dear Mr. Dunn,

I’m pleased to have received a response from you. Indeed, the Supreme Court did rule against medical marijuana. It was disheartening that they ruled this way, considering it’s not within the power of the federal government to regulate medical marijuana, as Justice Thomas wrote in his dissenting opinion:

"Respondents Diane Monson and Angel Raich use marijuana that has never been bought or sold, that has never crossed state lines, and that has had no demonstrable effect on the national market for marijuana. If Congress can regulate this under the Commerce Clause, then it can regulate virtually anything–and the Federal Government is no longer one of limited and enumerated powers."

The federal government has overstepped its limited powers, and the Supreme Court failed to set this right. As a Republican, I hope you haven't forgotten about states' rights.

I discovered through Project Vote Smartą that you support "[allowing] doctors to prescribe marijuana to their patients for medicinal purposes." I hope that you will keep your word and vote in favor of bill H.R. 2087.

Sincerely,

Mailed that letter today.
Could you give me a link where I can start researching my "favorite Elected or Politician type person"?

EDIT

I just realized that he's an Illinois House Rep, and not a US House Rep. Oops.
