| Angola Officer Accused of Smuggling Marijuana Into Prison The Associated Press | Dateline Alabama | 07/15/2005 A security officer at the Louisiana State Penitentiary has been accused of helping to smuggle marijuana into the prison. Sgt. Vanessa Leonards Turner, 33, of Wakefield, was booked Thursday with malfeasance and conspiring to introduce contraband into a penal institution. Her arrest came after an investigation by prison officials, said Warden Burl Cain. Cain said Turner was accused of accepting $100 from an inmate, which she said she agreed to give to another prisoner, and assisting in smuggling two ounces of marijuana into the prison. Investigators found the marijuana inside a condom, Cain said. (LothNote: They can't keep it out of our prisons, what makes them think they can eliminate it from society? This serves as a perfect example of supply meeting the demand and how even small sums of money can entice and corrupt guards and law enforcement. It took $100 for the security guard to break the law. What will $20,000+ entice officials to do at the border or elsewhere? Alcohol prohibition and drug prohibition have consequences as a policy. The economic laws are not going away.)
