Default USA: US Marijuana Party's Statement on Marc Emery's Arrest

US Marijuana Party's Statement on Marc Emery's Arrest
Marc Scott Emery 'Prince of Pot' has been arrested by the DEA and RCMP.
teiNewswire.comxt | 08/02/2005

(I-Newswire) - At a time when Osama bin Laden is still hiding in a cave in Afghanistan, when we have 2000 soldiers dead in Iraq and more dying everyday with no end in sight, when our country houses 2.5 million prisoners ( more than any other country in the world ), when the whole country and even Congress are slamming the ONDCP because they have used their $11 billion budget to target pot smokers while meth has run rampant we somehow find the resources to invade our sister country Canada and enforce our draconian drug laws on her citizens over some pot seeds.

This action would not be justifiable even if our drug policies were working but to force another country to abide by US laws that have failed miserably and have caused untold societal damage and erosion of our constitutional rights and civil liberties defies all logic.

Is it any wonder that people all around the world sit and plot our destruction? It is this very kind of "Imperialist Intervention" in the affairs of sovereign nations that causes Americans to be targets of "terrorists".

And until we as Americans take a strong stand against it we will never be safe in this country again...nor do we really deserve to be.

I call on all Americans, regardless of their position on marijuana, to join forces and let it be known that the citizens of our country do not support the actions of the D.E.A.

We never elected the D.E.A. and they DO NOT represent us or our interests.

FREE MARC EMERY!!!

The body count is 1,800 as of Today ...

... we apologize for the inadvertant addition of 200 dead soldiers...tune in tomorrow for an update when we'll be closer to that important rounded figure

The difference is certainly important to at least 200 people. Let's not pretend 200 is trivial.

It took me about 10 seconds to check and make sure that was not correct. Couldn't the author have spent 10 more seconds on it?

A lot of Canadians are pissed at our country over that raid but maybe not all of them but there are a few who do realize it's not the U.S citizens fault for what happend because like their country theres people in ours that like to smoke pot too and want to see it legalized. It's not us they are pissed at, it's our government and the DEA that the Canadians don't like but a few of them seem to think it's all us Americans to blame.

I read in another forum which was mostly Canadians and a few people from the U.S commenting but one Canadian said stupid Americans, while another person just said don't blame all the Americans, it was their government and the DEA that did it.

Our country is creating more and more enemies and what's stupid about it is that it's because of banning a plant that grows in the dirt! We have a lot of things in our country that are a safety hazard, not requiring to wear a helmet to drive a motorcycle, can buy pure grain alcohol which over time can ruin a liver or even cause someone to become violent, tobacco has been linked to causing cancer! Drug companies marketing hazardous medications without informing the public of safety issues first. Just a theory but for pot remaining illegal who knows if or even how many of our American corporations are involved in supporting the battle to keep it that way. One hand washes the other, heres a few extra million for your campaign, just remember to shoot down votes to legalize cannabis. It's probably that way for a lot of people who become president, but even then congress has to approve which at one time they were ready to and it was shot down by whoever was president at the time i can't remember. He didn't even look at the report handed to him on why it was going to be legal and just threw it in the trash.

With pot legal the DEA could focus on real drug operations like meth labs. For a country that talks about cocaine going to Canada from the U.S only to get traded with marijuana, they have failed to show any cocaine busts at the U.S/Canadian border to prove that statement. Last time i checked they were just finding large amounts of marijuana and nothing else at the border. Pot and seed busts is all i heard lately. I rarely hear of any meth lab busts.

I agree with you... The author should have taken the few moments to get the figures correct.

And 1,800 is certainly an important number. One thousand eighthundred men and women of the United States Armed Forces dead is nothing to trivialize, ever.

The article does however demonstrate the trivial manner in which this entire Emery character situation comes together -- and why distancing the Legalization movement from his theatrics is important.

Perhaps he just rounded. If the number was 2,200 and the Bush Administration in a press release or something mentioned the number 2000, would you have objected as strenuously?

That reminds of one of those riddles. A plane crashes on the border between the United States and Canada. Where are the survivors buried?

Default NS: what about the rest of the press release?

OK Niteshift, I'll bite:

As a citizen of our country, do YOU support the actions of the D.E.A.?
