| Keep Off The Grass Herald-Sun | 08/02/2005 For years experts have warned that marijuana is dangerous. Mostly the warning has fallen on ears unwilling to listen. Today's version of cannabis is much stronger and thus more dangerous. Yesterday the Herald Sun revealed the tragic consequence of using it and the terrible risks of dismissing it as an acceptable recreational drug. Victoria's mental health clinics have been swamped by hundreds of young people with psychosis induced by the drug. Other mentally ill patients are being turned away. This is a terrible rebuff to those who argue that cannabis should not be illegal. Victoria's mental health experts brand the present state of affairs as a cannabis induced psychosis epidemic. (BuzzNote: To me it sounds more like a Reefer Madness epidemic! )Even for those who escape marijuana's mind-bending ability to induce psychosis, it saps motivation. Nonsensically, while Victoria's law bans children of any age buying tobacco, it does not prohibit them buying bongs used for smoking cannabis. The Health Department says it may review the law. Those who see the end results hope this is not another official pipedream.

Sounds like they are complaining about too many drunks and they are having to turn away cirrhoiss patients. How about we educate our kids about the real situation with Pot -- like we do with alcohol in our society? Then we might be able to cut down on the number of emergenvcy room visits and be able to treat the mentally ill in a timely manner. But that would actually require effort... what was I thinking?

they mention young people, most likely kids aged 12-17 but what about everybody else. STOP THE ****ING LIES. and also they flock to these clinics because they were caught with weed and forced to take these chemical dependency evaluations. 21 and older LEAGALIZE.

Although, if they're complaining about the weed being stronger nowadays, everyone knows they can go buy a bottle of Bacardi 151 at their local liquor store, right? No one ever said if it were legalized children would be allowed use. It's not recommended for people under the age of 16, at least, to take any unnecessary drugs.

| It's reccomended that no one take in unnecessary chemicals or medical treatments or surgical/skin breaking procedures at any age of life. So the question really is: Is voluntary inebriation without intoxication solely for the purpose of recreation okay? I say Yes, to a person of maturity. It may seem that my changing the words is only semantics -- but on the Internet -- and inevitably in debate on this issue of Marijuana Use and eventual Legalization of that use -- words (semantics) is the only weapon we have to fight with. Our strength to wield that weapon comes from knowledge of the truth about this particular plant and its incredible uses. | |
