| Raiders' Moss Admits To Using Marijuana Reuters | Reuters Canada | 08/19/2005 WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Controversial Oakland Raiders receiver Randy Moss has admitted to using marijuana but does not believe he is hooked on the drug. Marijuana is on the NFL's list of banned substances. "I have used, you know, marijuana since I've been in the league," Moss said on the HBO television program Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel, which will air Tuesday night. "But as far as abusing it and, you know, letting it take control over me, I don't do that, no." When asked if he still uses it, Moss said, "I might. I might have fun. And hopefully I won't get into any trouble by the NFL by saying that. "I have had fun throughout my years and, you know, predominantly in the offseason." A five-time Pro Bowler and one of the NFL's best big-play receivers, Moss also said he uses marijuana "every blue moon or every once in a while." NFL spokesman Greg Aiello would not say if Moss had ever been found in violation of the league's substance abuse policy. "We evaluate all conduct related to substance abuse and it is held confidentially by our doctors," he said Friday. The 6-foot-4, 205-pound Moss is in his eighth NFL season. He was slapped with a $10,000 fine by the NFL last year for feigning to moon fans of the Green Bay Packers. The 28-year-old receiver also rankled his Minnesota Vikings coaches when he left the field with several seconds left during a loss to the Washington Redskins, and on another occasion squirted an official with a water bottle. The Vikings traded Moss to the Raiders last year.

| I agree. I wonder if they screen players for drinking alcohol? There's something you can really abuse.

| If I was making millions of dollars for chasing a ball around a field, I think I'd refrain from smoking pot if it endangered my job. That doesn't seem like much of a sacrifice for that kind of money. A football career doesn't last that long.

I think he might be lying when he says that. It is just what he is saying to the reporters at the time. The whole state of MN heard this press conference either on the news or radio and it was on sportscenter and all of the nfl wil hear this conversation. He cant say how much he really smokes.

Now...THERE is a mature, well thought out response. Don't get me wrong....I'm not anti-marijuana is any way, but simply put, not quitting when the potential to lose millions upon millions of dollars is there just doesn't make sense. Imagine the wonnderful things you could do with that money. Hell, you could even donate an amount of it to groupls like NORML or the MPP, and work on getting it legalized, so it wouldn't even be an issue anymore. You could basically do whatever you wanted to, and still smoke once you've retired. I think its stupid to admit to using when there is so much at stake. I've smoked daily for ten years, and I'm choosing to give it up, for personal reasons. Its a great substance, but it can get in the way of more important things. Risking millions of dollars to continue smoking just seems dumb to me. | |
