| 'Prince of Pot' Emery under fire for web comments Zev Singer | London Free Press | 8/28/2008 OTTAWA -- Marijuana crusader Marc Emery was under fire this week as web-loggers scrutinize the content of his websites, including a posting from his "jail blog" last summer that called federal Justice Minister Irwin Cotler a "Nazi-Jew." With the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration after him, the case of B.C.'s "Prince of Pot" has become a cause celebre. Since his arrest a month ago, Emery faces possible extradition to the United States for selling marijuana seeds to U.S. customers. Supporters of Emery, who calls himself "the leader of the marijuana people around the world," include federal NDP Leader Jack Layton, who has argued against the extradition. Emery, 47, was serving a three-month sentence in Saskatoon last summer for passing a joint at a marijuana rally when he wrote the "jail blog," which he dictated to associates over the phone. It was then posted on the Internet. In it, he complained that Cotler went from being a human rights advocate to a justice minister who, as attorney general, allows for the prosecution of cannabis users. "I thought the term Jewish-Nazi, or Nazi-Jew, was an oxymoron until Cotler became the Injustice Minister," Emery's posting said. "What a disgrace he is to his Jewish roots. He should -- so much -- know better." In June, the content on Emery's main website (cannabisculture .com) which he edits, publishes and uses to help sell millions of dollars worth of marijuana seeds -- prompted NDP House leader Libby Davies to write to one of Emery's employees, Chris Bennett. "I have been extremely disturbed by the tone and characterization of the Minister of Justice, Mr. Cotler, as a Nazi Jew and the Gestapo," wrote Davies. She found "the anti-Semitic characterization of Mr. Cotler based on his religious beliefs to be very offensive and completely counterproductive." Four days after Davies' letter was posted to the site, Emery -- temporarily taking a view that the Nazi metaphor "disengages almost everyone" -- wrote he had a better word for Cotler: "capo." "If you're going to make comparisons," he advised, "the term for Irwin Cotler might be 'capo.' These were the Jews during the Holocaust who were fated to deliver their fellow Jews to their death . . ." In this case, Cotler would deliver his fellow Canadians to his American "masters," Emery suggests.

It's not looking so hot for him though. Good luck Marc. Did anyone catch Jack Layton sticking up for him in this article? Very interesting. I would follow pot-tv from time to time over the years just to watch the more interesting productions pot-tv did, particularly with Marc at a rally or something. I remember during a previous election how Jack Layton himself, the leader of the political party actually came on Pot-tv and said marijuana is a wonderful substance etc... Marc urged his followers to support the New Democratic Party, and apparently it is claimed he generated quite a few votes for them. The odd thing is I remember seeing somewhere later that Marc called Jack Layton a backstabber since the NDP wasn't taking a strong stand for legalization. Do any of you Emery supporters remember that? Like I said before, good luck Marc, but my limited funding is already to the MPP/NORML/DPA/etc...It just doesn't look good for him given that his followers don't seem to be putting the money forward and the case seems to be fairly solid against him. It would be cool to have a Canadian lawyer talk about this treaty to give a clear answer to all the issues brought forward. I would tend to agree with the hard lined stance that Buzzby and niteshift have spoken right now, but I know that Canadian justice system is slightly different, and I haven't looked at the treaty in depth. You just never can tell with those Canadians. ![]()

| George Bush: "If you're not with us, you're against us." Marc Emery: "If you're not with me, you're a Nazi." ![]() [Before the BCMP folks jump all over me, this is a humorous characterization, not a quotation.]

| HE NEVER SAID THAT!! ![]() I have to say though, good job at comparing George Bush with Marc Emery. You're getting better at it, that's for sure. It's too bad that Marc would burn that bridge; he might have had a sliver of a better chance, had he not said that **** about Irwin Cotler. Then again, maybe not. In response to the Jack Layton thing; I don't remember for sure. I do remember that the NDP apparently did drop some support for him and the BCMP though. And when a lot of this is happening, they are not speaking out against it. Either he pissed someone off, or someone's convinced them that it's not in their best political interests to advocate marijuana legalization through that avenue. That's fine, it's too bad though. George W. Bush - "If you're not with us, you're against us." Buzzby - "Don't support Marc Emery's activism, it's counter productive to a better way that I can tell you. He's not an ally, he's an enemy." Hmmm, seems that you have that very same attitude, Buzzby! ![]() Also, I didn't quote Buzzby, just paraphrased him. ![]()

I'm not sayin it was right what he said, but that incident was over a year ago and they are bringing it up now just because he's been arrested for selling seeds. |

Unfortunately, the holocaust will continue being used as a hyperbole by people wishing to discredit others. In Marc Emery's case; Justice Minister Irwin Cotler. Don't mistake him as being the only one to make this reference though. However, condemn it all you want, as I completely agree that it's not called for. | |

| Never heard of Justice Minister Irwin Cotler before, so I don't know anything of his record. But "Nazi-Jew" had me rolling in the isle. That isn't inappropriate. It's just too far out there to make sense.

| Ouch, slamm, bam. This reporter did his best to hit him low. I never knew that supporters of Emery calls himself. Let supporters of Emery call themselves what they want to.. Really, its not a joking matter. Marc is a hero to Canadians, because of his activism. His seeds gave hobbyists alot of good experiences, and beautiful buds. I can see the psycho-logical war going on here. Two things can come of this situation. If the US-Fed Wins, Canadian growers will hide in their growboxes, and feel helpless, that its hopeless, and there's nothing they can do about it. Or Canadians stand up, and organize grassroots efforts, grow support, and sieze control of their government.
