Default GBR: Cannabis Downgrade Status Could Be Reversed

Cannabis Downgrade Status Could Be Reversed
The Scotsman | 09/24/2005

THE panel advising the Government on drugs meets today to discuss whether the downgrading of cannabis should be reversed.

Home Secretary Charles Clarke asked the independent advisers to reassess the dangers in March, highlighting recent studies associating its use with "psychotic symptoms".

He asked for particular guidance on Dutch plans to introduce a higher classification for more potent types of dope, known as skunk.

Ex-home secretary David Blunkett downgraded the drug from Class B to Class C - placing it alongside steroids - in January last year.

This made most cannabis possession cases a non-arrestable offence.

Yesterday, the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs heard evidence from cannabis users and charities.

Members begin deliberations today and are expected to report to ministers by the end of the year.

this is just such a load of bull. why do the british always **** about? the first downgrading was a pointless publicity stunt, and this is the government saving face in the light of all the media attention given to the link between cannabis and mental illness. we really do just *****foot with the best of them. i seriously reckon we've got the most anal, slimeball government out there at the mo. 'new labour?' pfft.

blunkett was a twat but charles clarke's on a ****ing leash...at least blunkett pushed legislation. all clarke does is poke it with a stick and then turns soppy-eyed to tony when the backbenchers start screaming (*cough* terror laws *cough*).

how exactly are they going to classify potency? that's the stupidest thing i've ever heard. not only will they take your green when they arrest you there gonna have to stick there noses into it and debate the quality. who ever heard of arguing how good the gear is with a policeman?

this is just so bloody typical of english parliament. legislation that either doesn't do anything or takes so long to come into action that by the time it does you've got two-hundred other bloody laws that cover it, and u-turns. the biggest, most slimeball, 180degree u-turns known in the democratic world. u-turns of the sort that render opposition parties obsolete.

you know, in my country everybody's paranoid about the government being secretive and ulterior, conspiring with the great bushmonkey of the states etc. imo: this is bollocks! they just haven't got a bloody clue what they're doing! they pretend they do so as not to fall into the same category as the conservatives, but in reality their parties just as splintered, backstabbing and clueless as the tories. take the budget and gordon brown for instance: did he even have a calculator? no! he just made it up and pencilled in whatever sounded best and what would shut people up for a few months! they don't give a flying **** and they're using a lack of real opposition as an excuse to take parliament and the people for a bunch of ****ing goons!

another: clarke's terror laws. wtf? was ANYBODY other than labour ministers and puppet police commissioners consulted on this AT ALL? its a complete mess! nobody knows what is happening! and city academies being plundered by th ****ing head teacher for christ's sake! its a mess. this government is the biggest group of clueless dickheads we've had in ages. at least past leaderships have been openly stupid. these guys think that by smiling and sacking representatives nobody will notice a damn thing.

anyways, back on topic, here's what'll happen: nothing. five or six people will get together, have coffee and be payed vast sums of taxpayers money to jumble a few words together along the line of "we've already screwed up once so let's not risk doing it again, eh? give more money to useless labrats and we can all walk away from this while they come up with a different way of saying we were right all along."

this sounds scary. especially when it mentioned a dutch plan to make skunk illegal.

I have to continue asking myself where the evidence is that high potency cannabis is really a danger. I keep seeing it in media articles, but I never hear it justified except with vague correlations of treatment admissions, or maybe citing some correlation with an increase in mental illness. Where are the facts to justify this claim? The "facts" come from the propaganda hub on drugs at the ONDCP. Amazing how their lies spread across the globe.

Except for rank amateurs, people smoke to their comfort zone. If that's two tokes of Skunk or two joints of schwag the only difference is that the person smoking the schwag is breathing a lot more smoke.

My conclusion has to be that high-potency pot is healthier than low-potency pot. National health agencies should promote it!
