Default USA: Woody Harrelson says yoga gives him a better high than cannabis

Yoga gives Woody Harrelson bigger kick than marijuana
Webindia123 | 11/29/2005

Hollywood actor Woody Harrelson, who was in favour of legalising marijuana until recently, has now realised that yoga is a better option, if one wants to follow a healthy lifestyle.

The party-loving star, who has long been a poster boy for smokers of the drug, has swapped the weed for yoga, and says the spiritual practice gives him enormous benefits.

"Yoga and smoking a joint are very similar things. One, you take the elevator to the top floor, and the other you climb up the mountain. But the one gives you ultimately a deficit, whereas the yoga continually pays dividends. I do think it helps me. You can look in my eyes and probably see there's some kind of agitation in there," Contactmusic quoted him as saying.

i personally tend to think that meditation is much better than smoking pot...the effects are longer lasting and better.

Default If yoga is good, why does that make marijuana bad?

Yoga is very good. What I don't see is why that makes marijuana "bad". They're not the same thing and I find that they enhance each other.

The marijuana gives me greater awareness of my body so that I can better feel what the yoga postures are supposed to do. That way I can maximize the benefits instead of just going through a rote routine.

The yoga gives me a clearer head, reducing the confusion, anxiety, and short-term memory loss that can be a factor in smoking pot.

People who "find religion" and denounce their former use of marijuana seem to be victims of a cultural tendency to think that drugs are "bad". The truth is that drugs can be "good", "bad", or "indifferent", depending on the relationships you form with them. Let's not forget that India's Sadhus, holy itinerant Yogis, smoke like chimneys. If they think cannabis is a complement to yoga and meditation, I'd give it more weight than yoga newbie Woody Harrelson's opinion.

And now if we could only get Yoga legalized...

So now, just because he is not a big fan of smoking cannabis, he thinks it should remain illegal? What a selfish bastard. Legalization is healthy for society at large.

What kind of lame comment is that? There is some kind of agitation about my eyes too, although it's source does not reside in cannabis, but lame turncloaks like this guy.

Default you can't compare marijuana with yoga

Hello
marijuana is a drug and yoga is exercise...i recommend using marijuana prior to doing yoga for an ultimate experience...i can understand that yoga can release endorphins in the body which make you feel good naturally, but the effect is weak when you compare it to the effects of premium marijuana or hash that we have now adays...

Well if you smoke while doing yoga that should be the ultimate high.

Careful not to jump to conclusions. The article may say that Woody favourised legalizing cannabis until recently, he doesn't specifically say anything of the sort. In fact, the article doesn't specify that he's against legalization either. And journalists tend to make things up!

And I can't imagine the guy who narrated "Grass" would be so quick to support prohibition.

Hatha Yoga (the physical posture part of Yoga) is not dangerous at all unless you push yourself into positions that cause you pain. The secret is to not to expect to be an expert right off the mark. It takes a while to gently stretch your tendons so that you have greater flexibility and range of motion.

Why would yoga be off-topic? I don't see anything in the Posting Guidelines that would make it so.
