Default OK: Teacher Charged With Growing Marijuana

Teacher Charged With Growing Marijuana
AP | KFOR.com | 12/01/2005

TULSA, Okla. -- A Broken Arrow elementary school teacher and her youth counselor husband are facing four drug counts in connection with an indoor marijuana growing operation.

Thirty-three-year-old Becky Ann Meador and 35-year-old Robert Lee Meador were charged yesterday in Tulsa County District Court.

The couple were arrested after a search by Broken Arrow police reportedly turned up 33 adult marijuana plants and 13 smaller plants under grow-lights with irrigation and plant food on their property. Police also found hallucinogenic mushrooms, several weapons, and assorted paraphernalia.

Becky Meador was named Teacher of the Year at Park Lane Elementary School just last month.

Robert Meador has worked for the Shadow Mountain Behavioral Health System for several years as a counselor treating children and teenagers with emotional and behavioral problems on an outpatient basis.

I think if you don't commit violent crimes then you should be able to enjoy drugs responsibly. It doesn't look like these were bad people. Teacher of the year...........And a youth counselor. It's too bad ppl can't enjoy some grass without gettin in trouble with it. Especially 2 individuals that have good jobs working with kids and helping them out.

I'm from Broken Arrow and am surprised I didn't hear about this until now. Its a shame that a good teacher that obviously cared about her job has had her entire life ruined now. She'll never be able to work as a school teacher again and her reputation has been destroyed.

These people were smart, they had to be with the jobs they had, yet they claim marijuana makes people stupid and claim these drugs will fry your brain, they had all organic drugs. Wheather they were growing all of this and selling it, who knows, but more than likely they were using shrooms and pot and yet they were still able to handle their careers. I don't know what health problems shrooms can cause, we all heard the stories about pot though, i'm not going to talk about the health problems either of these drugs might or might not cause but the fact is they were still able to do their job fine.

The cops found a few weapons so what's that supposed to mean? It didn't say if they had a permit or not or what type of weapons they had, assuming guns the guy could have been a hunter depending on what he had. If it was determined they had permits what do they do, just leave that information out and write the story with drugs and weapons leaving people to think the weapons were there to allow them to protect their drugs?

Their reputation is ruined based on their illegal activities, then you might have parents probably arguing with the school, i can't believe these people were working with kids! Even though what they did was illegal they still helped people out with problems.

They were arrested and went without a fight, didn't say they resisted arrest, they seem like good people.

Wonder how they got caught, if it was for personal use and they showed someone, that would have been the dumbest move they made, if they were busted because of selling, again dumbest move they could make because they had good jobs.

The only thing i see that sucks about this though is what prohibition does to good people.

What I would like to know is how the leo found out and if they was selling ore told somebody then owell.
As for as the guns go its just adds to the story.

It doesn't matter. In most states there are serious additional penalties if you commit a felony and are in possession of firearms. There's been a story in the news on this site about a guy who sold some small amount of pot while wearing a pistol in an ankle holster. He got 55 years, 5 for the sale and 50 mandatory minimum sentence for having the gun in his possession while making the sale. He didn't threaten anyone and he didn't even draw the pistol.
