| Isn't marijuana legalization going to be up on the 2006 ballot for Nevada? Also NORML is putting propositions similar to the one that just passed in Denver in six different California cities. Then in 2008 there will be a statewide vote. Perhaps legalization is not too far off?

| Sure it is. And we will soon find a cure for cancer. And science will soon learn how to change the orbit of the moon so we can have more full moons per month. And science will develope a safe matter/antimatter generator so power will be free. And someone will really find Elvis. (he'll be growing marijuana in Utah). |

| Killer - Is this one of those "negative attention is still attention" deals? If you can't get any attention by saying something intelligent and/or useful you can get some by being stupidly and persistently negative? That gimmick only works until people realize what you're doing. Anyone who's worked with 2-year-olds is very familiar with it.

| Where is all that "HATE" coming from? I'm just trying to be real here. Maybe you need to spend some time with little baby Jesus. Maybe he can cure you of your addiction to Haterade. |

| Religion, much less Christianity, does not preclude hatred.

![]() All I did was call you on your childish attention-getting tactics. Grow up. Try to contribute something useful instead of fishing for people to "hate" you. At first, you're annoying. Then you're irritating. Then you're frustrating. Then people catch on to what you're doing and you're boring. Soon people see your name on a post and skip over it. If they know how to use the forum software they put you on their ignore list. If I weren't a moderator I'd do that. | |

| Strange... I love Haterade! ![]() Legalization only seems like a long shot when you think about the police and all their power to bust you. Yet, then think about all the people you've ever smoked weed with, bought weed from or talked about smoking weed in a favorable light. I can think of hundreds and the spectrum of people goes beyond races, ages, occupations and even countries! Marijuana brings people together and enhances their quality of life. Marijuana is the largest cash crop in Canada and Mexico and many US States. The current marijuana laws are just like the small rock in the big river, economic realities will eventually wash them away. Prohibition makes normal people very angry and that is to be expected. Forums are a pretty good place for people to spout off. It's pretty harmless. |

If we want to get the laws changed we need to educate the public on the relative harms and benefits of legalization v. prohibition: the small potential for harm from using the herb, the medical benefits from making it available, the harm to society from criminalizing people who have hurt no one, and the expense, both human and monetary, of trying to maintain a ban that has never worked and can never work. Once public opinion has been modified so that a majority favors legalization (currently it's 1/3 for legalization and 2/3 against) we can be more effective in lobbying our legislators to change the laws. Remember, a politician's first priority is to get reelected. Even if he believes in legalization he won't push it if he thinks it's going to lose him his job. When we get a majority of the public on the bandwagon we can start supporting the campaigns of political candidates who favor legalization. All this takes a lot of money. Any campaign we put up to explain the positive side of marijuana and legalization will be countered by the government. The ONDCP currently spends $120,000,000 a year on those anti-pot TV spots alone. The entire marijuana legalization movement operates on an annual budget of $12,000,000, most of which comes from two very rich men. The organizations we need are already in place but they're so underfunded that they can't do what we want them to do. If American marijuana users would put 1% of what they spend on weed and accessories into the legalization movement it would have $400,000,000 a year to work with. | Alot of baby boomers have smoked pot or know people that have, yet their attitude towards marijuana has changed from when they were teenagers or young adults. And they are listening to the DEA when they say this modern pot isn't the same kind you smoked in the 60's. I know its BS but their message is getting out and alot of people are buying into it. |
