I don't understand your meaning. Are you saying that the baby boomers are at fault for how people think of marijauan today? Or that they are hypocritical because they used to smoke pot, but now denounce it?

I don't know any baby boomers that did smoke pot back then that don't still smoke pot....my parents included (mom is 59 and dad is 57). I have however run across baby boomers that never touched the stuff then and believe in the reefer madness crap. But to say "it's the baby boomers' fault" is just ridiculous.

just would like to mention that i got my dpa membership card today, and it said that all contributions that are postmarked before new years will be matched by some mysterious contributor. this is a great opportunity to show support by giving, even if just a little, and having your donation doubled.

What I'm saying is that baby boomers are now in control of this nation. Since marijuana use was quite common during the time they were growing up something must have influenced their opinions concerning pot. I'm saying that big money spent by the DEA and other drug enforcement agencies have swayed their opinions. You had a huge segment of the population that are familiar with pot but who at this point in their lives do not support the legalization of marijuana. They're not too upset when their kids are caught using pot but still think it should remain illegal.

That would probably be George Soros, the billionaire who provides the bulk of the funding for the Drug Policy Alliance.

I went to college in the late 60s at the University of Michigan, sometimes called "the Berkeley of the Mid-West". Even there, the majority of the undergrads did not smoke pot. Many of the "straights" looked on the "heads" with distain. They probably still do. Others have rejected their marijuana use as a youthful rebellion and see it as detrimental to the maintenance of a stable society, perhaps influenced by government propaganda. After all, in the 60s marijuana users were seen as part of a counterculture that wanted to tear down all the old institutions. As the Jefferson Airplane said, "We are forces of Chaos and Anarchy! Everything they say we are, we are. And we are very proud of ourselves!"

You obviously don't have any children! Any parent is upset when their child is in trouble. They think marijuana should remain illegal because they think that keeping it that way discourages children from engaging in "drug abuse". The fact that their innocent darling was seduced by this evil drug is proof enough of how powerful its lure can be. Since most first-time possession busts, especially of minors, result in probation, the parents think that maybe it'll teach their kids a lesson and get them back on the path to a righteous and productive life.

I have 3 children and yes I would be upset if they got caught with pot. But my anger with them is their waste of money as their money is tight and they can't afford pot or the cost of a lawyer to fight it in court. I would much rather they smoke pot than drink to excess. My 2 oldest ones don't do either as I have had a long and serious discussion about all the different kinds of stuff out there. My baby is 9 and she probably thinks pot is something you put flowers in.
