Parents Accused of Smoking Pot With Kids

Parents are supposed to teach their children to say no to drugs, but a Pataskala couple is accused of doing the exact opposite.

Pataskala parents are facing felony corrupting with drugs charges after police say they not only supplied their children with marijuana, but smoked it with them, too.

Detectives say it all began at a trailer just south of downtown Pataskala.

"Been going on about a year. Involved the whole family," Detective Andy Waugh.

Donald and Yvonne Rutter, police say, weren't helping their children with homework. They were helping them get high

Detective Waugh says, "Mom and dad were supplying and smoking marijuana with their kids."

Investigators say the Rutters were not only buying marijuana, but bringing it home and smoking it at least three time a week with their three teenagers.

"Whoever had it, they would pass it around," says Detective Andy Waugh.

Why was this behavior tolerated and encouraged?

"Dad's explanation was he would rather the kids do it with him than go out elsewhere and do it," says Detective Waugh.

The police didn't buy that reason, and now the parents are in jail and the children are in foster care.

"You hate to take kids out of homes, but you know especially here, there's a very good reason," says Detective Waugh.

A grand jury will be convened on Thursday, and indictments are expected to follow, say police.

not enough information is posted here, are the kids doing well in school? for all we know these are straight A students.

The next thing dad can teach his kids is the proper way to shoot cryth meth and to determine whether the load is going into an artery or vein.

havent any of you smoked with your parents????

I smoked with my dad once I was 16,

he only smoked off and on so it was not even a weekly thing, but so long as I got at least a "B" average i was permitted to toke with him, or his friends, or my aunt if I felt like it from the age of 16 on.

side note 16 is the alcohol and tobacco age here in France, it is seen of as normal for teens to use drugs and alcohol over here, not necessairaly good, but normal.

Alcohol is more dangerous than marijuana, yet if a father drank a beer with his son it wouldn't be against the law or seen as "wrong" unless the son was 8 years old. What would people say if a father was caught drinking beer with his 17 year old and the kids got taken away? I bet they'd care then. But if a father is seen smoking THE EVIL DEVIL WEED with his kids, hes a "druggie", a "bad parent"?

I'm just trying to be a good father by showing my children the proper way to get high with marijuana.

It may all sound good to everyone here on these boards but it isn't going to play well in front of child protective services, now is it?
