Default IN: Man Facing Drug Charge Was Mentor To Students

Man Facing Drug Charge Was Mentor To Students
Indianapolis Star | 01/19/2006

An instructor in an after-school program that helped Indianapolis children avoid drugs has been charged with possessing marijuana.

Erwin Golden, 25, was carrying 18 1-ounce bags of marijuana when an officer stopped him for speeding Jan. 12, according to an Indianapolis Police Department report.

Before the arrest, Golden worked part time as a life-skills instructor in an after-school program at Marshall Middle School, where his duties included warning students of the dangers of drugs.

Nothing in the police report indicates Golden was selling drugs at the school.

Principal Jamyce Banks said Golden is barred from school property.

"We cannot have him here on campus until those issues have been resolved," Banks said.

The after-school tutoring and mentoring program is a partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Indianapolis and the YMCA, Banks said. Golden worked under a contract and was not employed by the school system.

Cool This one almost went right by me....

but it might be the best topic starter we've had in awhile.

This issue and herb smoker's has been a hot topic for a couple of month's here in Ohio, so let me open the ball and get some feedback, please.

Recently, here in Ohio, we've had local school worker's, (I won't get into specific's), arrested for herb possesion and suspended from their job's, pending outcome at the court.
These "worker's" have recieved award's for excellence at their "work", even "worker" of the year. So one would assume herb didn't hinder their job performance, huh?
At the same school, we've had "worker's" get arrested for drunk driving, which is a worse crime in the state of Ohio, and never even receive a notice from the school. They act like nothing ever happened.

So the question is, what's the opinion? School zone's= The zone and the people that work there drug, alcohol and tobacco free, or, it's all right as long as their good "worker's" and only do "it" at home?

Help me out?

The Deddy

DAMN......the cops are going to throw the book at him. 18 bags means he's a dealer. I'd sure hate to be him. The best thing he can do is cry like a baby and blame the devil or something like that. He is truly F*CKED.

I think that if you do a poor job at work you should be notified of it and have some goals set to help you improve your performance. There is no reason to get into details concerning the cause of poor performance, it is up to each person to figure out what works for them.

Therefore, there should be no difference between doing a bad job because you are a drunk, or because you like to toke up. I do not see any valid reason why this guy should be barred from going back to work, after all he apparently was doing a good job helping the kids there.

The best thing that he could do would be to maintain the notion that he was doing good work, and that his personal choice be involved with cannabis had no negative effect on his work performance, or the children's health. We can hope that the judge takes this into account.

I am surprised that nobody has gone on about he deserves whatever he gets for breaking the law and all that nonsense...

how many times do we read something like this

"Erwin Golden, 25, was carrying 18 1-ounce bags of marijuana when an officer stopped him for speeding Jan. 12, according to an Indianapolis Police Department report."

please folks, when you have over a pound of weed, broken up into ounces, i mean a half kilo of ounces, then pehaps you should

1. make sure all your lights/turnsignals are working and use them
2. wear your seat belt
3. OBEY THE SPEED LIMIT AND OTHER RULES OF THE ROAD

just tips on how to stay steath, you know, under the radar of the fuzz

Reggie is right. A little common sense goes a long way.

Or how about

4. Don't drive around with a lot of pot in your car. Or better yet, don't drive around with any pot.

The guy isn't just a toker, he's a dealer and is facing felony charges. He's also a hypocrite. On one hand he's selling weed. On the other he's telling kids that drug use is harmful and wrong. I wouldn't want a phony like this mentoring my kids.

"Well, yes, Your Honor. I am a drug dealer, but I never sold any to the kids I was mentoring and I never suggested to them that using drugs was a good idea." Somehow, I don't think that defense is going to get very far. He probably won't be charged with any crime that relates to his participation in the after-school program. Possession for sale is a felony and he has no defense on that score.

How do you propose that dealers get around? "Your Honor, I wasn't 'trafficking'. I was always on foot."

and I hope I don't get fired off the election committee, but aren't you forming your own conclusion's based on very little information? Simply possesing that amount is a felony with no need to prove any dealing "whatsoever". Yet you've got him a hypocrite and a "dealer", whatever that mean's, because of what? He had fifteen ounces in different bag's? He teaches drug classes, so he's a hypocrite?
Was he any good at teaching? Did he excite their little noodles and make 'em think?

What's the most herb you've ever possesed?

(Dedbr grab's a shovel and start's a new bunker...)

I'm gonna be upset if he passes out joint's and lighter's to my eleven year old's class, of course, but if that same eleven year old comes home and tell's me what a great teacher he's got, I'm going to listen.

What? NOBODY has any reason to be walking around with that much pot for personal use. If it was, wouldn't it be in the same bag? Why break it up into one once bags (18 of them!) if you weren't going to sell them off one by one? I mean, giving someone the benefit of the doubt is one thing, but you'd have to be braindead to think he just wanted to smoke a few friends up or something. Yeah, I'm sure hes just a real heavy smoker

Cool New Guy....

What's the most herb you've ever personally owned? Your's, in the freeezer, put up, no worry's,mate, chillin', on the beach, foggin', takin' hit's, whatever, your's? Joint's, ounces, pound's?

O.K. Now, is he a medical provider? If so, how many patient's is he providing for? Was a urine screen performed, and if so, what were the result's? In Indiana, a urine screen would of been mandatory, and the result's would of backed up this article.

The question I asked is it all right for people to drink or smoke or use drug's at home as long as they don't do it on school ground's?

(More dirt flies in the air...)

Stoner's and drunk's,but not around the kid's?
