Cannabis Caution Sends Wrong Signal

I MUST criticise the suggestion by the DPP to gardaí, backed by Justice Minister Michael McDowell, that they should no longer prosecute those found in possession of cannabis for personal use, but instead be cautioned.

This sends out the wrong signal. It shows more than ever the need for a moral renewal in Government and society. Illegal drug use is wrong, and it can lead to more serious drug use, crime and mental illness, even suicide.

The minister has outlined the web of death and mayhem that cannabis can be at the centre of. He should not sanction a slippery slope to casual use.

Those who use drugs, as well as those who perpetrate acts of anti-social behaviour upon their communities, should compensate those same communities through programmes of restorative justice.

Many local groups need help. Perhaps in doing such work, those who use and abuse drugs and alcohol will come to appreciate there is a communal duty to humanity.

What the hell. Now if i am anti-social somtimes i will have to go do some community sevice. **** that. And who goes on a death and destruction campaign when there on cannabis? This **** pisses me off.

Yep, just more of a reason why morals should not be even slightyly incorporated into government. Why exactly is drug use wrong? Just because its illegal? Well if they deciminalize it then it won't really be illegal (all you get is a fine), so does that make it "right"? He says illegal drug use is wrong, what if they weren't illegal anymore? If you judge whats morally right and morally wrong based on what the government deems lawful, you need to brush the wool out of your eyes.
