Providing procedural information to someone which they later use to commit a crime does not constitute conspiracy. Legally, conspiracy requires evidence that two or more people agreed to commit a crime and took at least one step called an "overt act" -- however trivial and even perfectly legal -- toward planning that crime or carrying it out. If providing grow info was sufficient to indict someone for conspiracy they could indict authors of books on how to use a firearm.

The First Amendment is still in effect in the United States. I'm not clear what guarantees Canadians have for freedom of expression.

Canada has the charter of rights and freedoms. In it your guaranteed the freedom of concience, religion, thought, belief, opinion, expression, life, liberty, security of person, association and peaceful assembly.

So we basically have the same fundemental freedoms. We're not guaranteed the persuit of happiness but I don't know what that means anyway.

In regards to the point of the thread we'll find out as soon as there is a trial. If there isn't a trial then I would believe that he bargained with the police, assuming he was even arrested. If he wasn't even arrested then he really sold out. It could even be for some completely different reasons all together. We just don't have enough information.

Don't worry, Americans aren't guaranteed the right to pursue happiness either. It looks good on paper, but if it were true, they wouldnt be incarcerating non-violent marijuana offenders, since that is just the pursuit of happiness right there ...
