Default MO: Missouri House Bill Filed To Legalize Medicinal Marijuana

Missouri House Bill Filed To Legalize Medicinal Marijuana
Josh Vince | Columbia Missourian | 02/23/2006

A bill filed in the Missouri House of Representatives reopens the debate about medical marijuana.

Rep. Tom Villa, D-St. Louis, is sponsoring the bill, filed Tuesday, that would allow doctors statewide to prescribe marijuana for patients with serious medical conditions. It is similar to medical marijuana proposals filed in Missouri’s General Assembly in years past. Eleven other states have passed similar bills.

Under the bill, Missouri patients, through their physicians, would contact the state health department to receive an authorization card, which would show that they have a doctor’s approval to use the drug.

“National surveys show a broad base of support for this type of legislation,” Villa said.

Columbia voters approved a proposition last year that allows the use of medical marijuana in the city.

Retired Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper and undercover narcotics officer Ed Moses said Wednesday that some groups, such as the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws, want legalization of medical marijuana to act as a foothold in making marijuana legal.

“There is no scientific merit to sucking in toxic fumes and calling it medicine,” Moses said.

Doctors are authorized to prescribe other potentially harmful drugs — including opium, cocaine and methamphetamine — to patients for medical reasons, according to current Missouri law. Marijuana is not a recognized pharmaceutical drug.

Why is this guy talking about toxic fumes when the article is about legalization of medical cannabis?

Ooohh, I get it, even though its been said by a DEA judge that cannabis is the safest known therapeutic agent known to mankind, this guy thinks its dangerous because hes a cop, and cops aren't sopposed to think, they're sopposed to believe whatever thier superiors tell them. Sort of like how a dog will roll over when you tell it to (if its trained) but it doesn't have the mental capacity to question why.

Exactly, people should have the right to use opium, cocaine, and meth for medicine, just not something one hundred times safer. Makes perfect sense to me.

OMG. He's a friggin COP not a doctor. How the hell would he know? That was one ignorant statement. He needs to talk about something he knows something about. There are alot of drugs that doctors use through the use of an inhaler that one could consider toxic at certain dosage levels. Its just that marijuana happens to be the SAFEST one out there.
I thought my head would explode when I read that. But I'm better now.

Medical usage and recreational usage are two different issues but the drug warriors always like to tie them all together in an effort to beat them both.

Default The Trooper's Right. Give Him a Carrot

It's no secret that NORML, many other organizations and activists want marijuana legalized for adult use.

And?

So what's your point?

Well, if it was a secret, let's clarify for the record: We'll use medical marijuana, hemp farms, expose alcohol and prescription drug shams, burn politicians, get cops busted, sue the crap out of cities and states, and pretty much slam everyone we can until the government regulates marijuana for adult consumers and stops slamming them.

Turn about IS fair play.

And it's really no secret. You just can't deal with it, yet.
