| ProPot Party Platform is Most Tech Savvy United Press International | 3/20/06 TEL AVIV, Israel, March 20 (UPI) -- Israel's Green Leaf party, best known for supporting the legalization of marijuana, also boasts the most tech-minded platform for the March 28 elections. Green Leaf is calling for HOT and Bezeq, the country's main ISPs, to increase their upload rates, according to a report on the Hebrew news Web site Ynet. Bezeq just unveiled its 2.5 megabit download option, with capacity for 150 kilobit uploading, and HOT has offered 1.5 megabit downloading with 512 kilobit uploading since last year. However, this is far behind the speeds enjoyed by surfers in Europe and the United States, the news site reported. Fast uploading is key for sending large e-mail attachments, using Voice over Internet Protocol programs like Skype and connecting to buddies via Web cams, all of which require sending large amounts of information in real time. The pro-marijuana party also vowed in its platform to pass a law requiring companies to secure customers' personal information, the news site said. Such legislation would be an update on a privacy law passed in 1981. This law hasn't been revisited since the advent of the Internet, and therefore supervision of Internet privacy in Israel is almost non-existent, according to the news site. Green Leaf is one of the smaller political parties set to compete in next week's parliamentary elections. It currently holds no Knesset seats and is not expected to clear the threshold number of votes to enter the next Knesset. Polls across the board predict that Kadima, the party formed by Prime Minister Ariel Sharon before a massive stroke on Jan. 4 put him in a coma, will garner the most mandates, followed by Labor and Likud.

| The Green Leaf party didn't get enough votes to get any seats in the Knesset. According to some reports, the young people voted for the Pensioners Party instead. The Pensioners got eight seats. What kind of priorities do these kids have? On one hand, the freedom to walk down the street in Tel Aviv with an Uzi slung over your shoulder and a Holy Land Spliff glued to your lip. On the other, giving your 80-something Grandparents and Great-Grandparents some assurance that they're not going to starve to death. Tough choice!

| It's unfortunate, but Israel probably isn't a place where I would bother putting money on the cannabis reform effort succeeding anytime soon. |
