| Dogs In Drugs Danger A vet has warned of the "devastating effects" cannabis can have on dogs Jack Math Ieson | The Daily Record | 04/14/2006 And he revealed that one pet brought into his surgery recently died after eating the class C drug. Adam Tjolles, of the Inglis Veterinary Centre in Dunfermline, Fife, said dogs were attracted to the smell and taste of cannabis. But he warned that the effects of cannabis on dogs were severe and he had recently seen five pets that had ingested the drug. He said: "Even a very small amount of cannabis can make a dog almost comatose. "The dog becomes very unstable, starts shaking and has fainting episodes. The case of the young dog that died was extremely distressing for everyone." The vet warned pet owners of the added dangers of allowing illegal drugs into their homes. He said: "Cannabis has a musty smell to it, much like a dog treat. But it is toxic to them and also has a hallucinogenic effect." The Scottish SPCA warned that pet owners who allowed dogs to swallow controlled drugs could face prosecution. A spokeswoman said: "There was one guy who thought it would be funny to feed the drug to his dog. But the dog became very ill and almost died."

As for safe to smoke "with a dog" -- smoking in a well ventilated environment where a dog is free to enter and exit should not be detrimental to the animal. Do not blow smoke in her ear as a any hot air and smoke could injure delicate tissues or cause infection. | ||

| We consider it to be unethical to "stone" someone without their informed consent. Since animals can't give us informed consent... The law is one thing. Ethics are another. |

| It seems that cannabis is toxic to animals. That seems strange, when you contrast it with the enormously beneficial effects it has on humans. I even think that it's wierd that injesting cannabis could nearly or actually kill a dog, while blowing smoke in its face merely gets it stoned. What would be the difference, I wonder? Perhaps it's that there is some chemical in the plant matter of cannabis that is toxic, while the smoke leaves it behind. Interesting...

Cannabis in a carnivores system will block the intestines causing tem to literally choke to death as their intestines knot back on themselves. If your cat or dog eats grass outdoors, small amouts, it causes them to vomit -- now imagine them chowing down on the most tough fibrous rope imaginable, namely hemp. Once it get's into their digestive system -- your weed absorbs gastric acids and fluids and expands in size. Your animal, unless it receives immediate emergency veterinary treatment and possibly surgery -- will die a horrible long and painful death. As for smoking them out -- the LD50 -- lethal dose for 50% tested for animals is lower than for humans -- they are physically smaller. The effect of the amount of cannabis that will get us high may be a detrimental dose to an animal that is 1/20th your weight -- like that cute kitten. May not kill them but may not be healthy for them either to be forced to inhale. It is cruel and inhumane to play "mad scientist" with your pets and we won't allow that discussion to take place on the board. That's a decision of the Board Owner -- and you agreed to that when you signed in ...as 18 or over. Jason, if what you are looking for is stupid stoners...who willingly and intentionally break federal laws...that would be a different site than this one you've found. ...have a cookie -- do read the posting policies...try the place on for size.
