Default NY: Anti-Drug Group Applauds FDA Announcement Denying The Medicalization Of Smoked Marijuana

Anti-Drug Group Applauds FDA Announcement Denying The Medicalization Of Smoked Marijuana
Steven H Steiner | Eworld Wire | April 23, 2006

ALBANY, N.Y./EWORLDWIRE/April 22, 2006 --- DAMMADD (DADS AND MAD MOMS AGAINST DRUG DEALERS) and other parent groups from all over the country have been petitioning the FDA to make a ruling on the medicalization of marijuana. After years of letter writing, the FDA agreed with arguments against legalization and with the 1999 report by the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Science. In the report, there were six recommendations made, with recommendation number 5:

"If there is any future for marijuana as a medicine, it lies in its isolated components, the cannabinoids and their synthetic derivatives. Isolated cannabinoids will provide more reliable effects than crude plant mixtures. Therefore, the purpose of clinical trials of smoked marijuana would not be to develop marijuana as a licensed drug, but such trials could be a first step towards the development of rapid-onset, nonsmoked cannabinoid delivery systems."

Pro drug organizations such as the Drug Policy Alliance and the Marijuana Policy Project (MPP) have worked to spin the truth to deceive the American public and ignore the new and upcoming cannabis medicine Sativex that has received phase III trial approvals from the FDA. In a statement issued April 21 on http://www.commondreams.org/news2006/0421-06.htm, MPP Director of Government Relations Aaron Houston alleges the position adopted by the FDA is political, that it reflects "the decline of the FDA as an independent scientific agency," rather than a non-partisian decision-making authority.

DAMMADD Founder Steven Steiner said, "The bottom line is these organizations are using the medicalization issue as a stepping stone for full legalization of marijuana."

Steiner is calling on all Americans to join the fight against all organizations which, by virtue of this stance, work to erode and destroy family values and use sick people to further their agendas.

Further information is available in videos at Americans For Drug Free Youth Web site, www.afdfy.org, at the Otto Moulton memorial library.

I hope all of those people get cancer or AIDS and start wasting away.

How can you applaud keeping people from their medicine.

These people are mentally sick.

I Agree. Its sad to see people disregarding and ignoring the benefits of marijuana. Especially when a drug like alcohol has no medicinal value at all and its still legal. There has to be a hidden agenda in why marijuana is still illegal.

Anyone ever notice the amount of restraint the legalization side show in the face off all the crap slung in our faces by everyone else? Using sick people? At least we don't point guns at them. So concerened for the sick, yet you don't even listen to them... strange.
Now if only this was printed somewhere where everyone else didn't share these same thoughts.

Hmm...All anti-cannabis people must have something in common, hmm...

THEY'RE ALL IGNORANT

That's just my opinion, but of course there are those that are anti-marijuana even though they seem well educated. Niteshift for example I guess, no offense.

Has anyone ever noticed that the Food and Drug Administration wants control of everything? (Sarcasm)-> Let us all study plants, study the great chemicals of importance specific to that plant, and recreate it by ourselves (synthesize). Let's waste our money, our time, and make things more difficult. Fun Fun Fun

Hmm...Shouldn't the anti-drug group wonder why our gov't wants to USE the cannabinoids, yet they keep telling us it is bad, and plus, why wouldn't they want to just grow it, it's easier isn't it? Sure, they can "isolate and concentrate" the good stuff, but you can also do that by breeding strains, and growing them a certain way. I just don't understand why the hell people want to keep pushing prohibition of marijuana. Marijuana is the LEAST of our problems. I don't know about your towns, but here, Opiates are becoming a problem. Yes, pain killers, APPROVED by the FDA. Highly addictive, and well-known. I have family members whos lives have been destroyed because of this addiction. Anyone see a problem...I give up...

I remember hearing something about the FDA wanting to have control over Vitamins, or label them as a drug if you will, what kind of bs is that. Money, and Power I guess...I need to toke, later...

Alcohol does have uses in the medical field.....can be used to sterilize equipment or an area of tissue. I'm sure there are other things it can be used for as I'm not in the medical field.

You might be surprised, if you read his posts, that NS is pretty much neutral on the issue of marijuana. Being a law enforcement officer, he does his job and enforces the law.

Of course, to take this position you would have to ignore the 100,000+ medical marijuana patients who claim symptomatic relief.

God forbid we introduce the concept of "compassion" to the list of "family values". One would have to wonder how these organizations have talked so many sick people into shilling for their cause.
