Default CA: L.A. County To Issue Medical Marijuana Cards

L.A. County To Issue Medical Marijuana Cards
05-10-06 | CBS5.Com

The county Board of Supervisors has voted to issue medical marijuana identification cards to qualified patients and regulate dispensaries in unincorporated areas.

Supervisors Yvonne Brathwaite Burke, Gloria Molina and Zev Yaroslavsky voted Tuesday in favor of issuing the state-mandated ID cards. Mike Antonovich and Don Knabe opposed it.

The board also voted 4 to 1, with Antonovich dissenting, to ban dispensaries in residential areas and require that they be at least 1,000 feet from schools, libraries and other institutions.

Americans for Safe Access, which supports medical marijuana, praised the board's actions.

"This puts the nation's largest county ahead of the curve on medical cannabis," said organization spokeswoman Amanda Brazel.

Opponents said supervisors were making it too easy for people to get drugs.

"Anyone can get their hands on marijuana any time they want it. Los Angeles County does not need any further ease and accessibility of marijuana," said Nancy Logan of Mothers Against Drunk and Drugged Drivers.

Cards would cost most patients $100 while Medi-Cal patients could get them for $50.

Default L.A. to issue

They have saying that for a few years now, while they steadily close the pot houses,it is a good plan if and when it goes into effect, however, you dont really need a card, all you need is verbral or written permission from your doctor and your cool,I carry my letter with me at all times in case i'm harrassed by the law,it's happened a couple of times but uasually if you cooperate and dont give an attitude they dont take your stash,I got a ticket once a couple of years ago which required me to appear,I did the judge dropped charges, but did not give my medicine back to me,to bad too,it was kryptonite, and I haven't been able to find anything to compare to it,yes there is a wide variety out there, but that krypto was the kind.
