| Court to hear marijuana arguments 07-04-06 | KTVA.Com Juneau Superior Court is scheduled to hear a lawsuit on Wednesday against the state overturn a new law penalizing marijuana possession for personal use in the home. The suit brought by the American Civil Liberties Union alleges the new law is an invasion of privacy, which goes against the state's constitution. Michael Macleod-Ball with the ACLU says it has been ruled by the court that the right to privacy in Alaska is stronger than in other states and at the federal level. The administration argues that marijuana has become more potent since 1973, when the court first ruled that up to four ounces of the drug could be kept for personal use. Macleod-Ball says information submitted to the Legislature clearly established that's not the case. The law was signed by Governor Murkowski last month and makes marijuana possession of four ounces or more a felony.

| It's so retarded how politicians ignore the law. First it was the Federal Government with the US constitution, which very specially states that all citizens can put whatever they want in their body. Then some state worshipping fucker named Nixon comes along and the whole nation supports his despot moves. One thing is for sure, democracy and despotism are the worst form of governments, as Alexander Hamilton said. The Alaskan constitution is even more specific on the issue of privacy. And yet people and politicians trample all over the laws. It doesn't matter if the person has cocaine in his house, it is still his privacy right. And pot? Don't be fucking serious. Alcohol is worse than pot and yet there are no anti-constitution laws against it. I was thinking of moving the Alaska some time ago but it seems like the state is loosing its libertarian legacies. The bible-fucking conservatives are taking over our last frontier. Is there any place on Earth where true liberty exists? A place with a tiny government limited only to protecting your rights and that's about it and not take your weed away (or tax high for it). |

Most of the prominent founding fathers were deists (which is very similar to atheism in its philosophy except you still believe in a God) who knew that the best government is the government that governs least. Alas our country has lost these classical liberal roots. In my honest opinion we don't live in a completely free nation. Purchasing even a switchblade is illegal in many states (direct violation of the 2nd Amendment). And of course marijuana is illegal (while alcohol, a hard drug is legal). Our founding fathers maybe rolling all over their grave right now. | ||
