| Pot activists mellow on Harris 07-12-06 | HeraldTribune.Com A group pushing to legalize pot decided to rally in front of Congresswoman Katherine Harris' office last week, but wasn't motivated to lambast her as they had initially planned. The Florida Cannabis Action Network had planned to criticize Harris, a Longboat Key Republican, for her opposition to legislation last week that would have allowed medicinal use of marijuana. But the group's leader, Anthony Lorenzo, said he lost his desire to pick on Harris, who is giving up her House of Representatives seat to run for U.S. Senate. "She's only going to be around for another six months anyway," Lorenzo said. Besides, getting Harris' name printed on signs would have been a pain, he said. Instead the six people who gathered at the corner of U.S. 301 and Fruitville Road waved generic, pre-printed signs that called for legalizing marijuana. "The war against marijuana is a waste of money," Lorenzo said Wednesday. <Snip> |
