Cool Steph....

snap out of it.....you sound like a soccer mom......

He might get some bones broke by the big, bad, defensive line, but that's what footballs all about, OK? Relax, Mom, there's only three or four kids get killed every year playing football......uh.....mmmm.....hhmmm....yeah, hey, just forget that I said that last part about the dead kids, OK?

Is he having fun? A broken bone is part of the game, mom. Don't be over-protective...

I agree, they should check for roids too, if their going to check, but I don't think they should check period. I think it's an invasion of privacy.

Yes, I know. I already addressed my erroneous assumption.

Well, let's see. My son is entering his Freshman year of high school as an honors student. He is in the honor orchestra and is on the starting line of the Freshman/Sophomore football team at his high school. (One of I think three freshmen.) How do you reckon my son has become such a success thus far in his young life? Silly me, I must be way too over involved in his life. Maybe I should step back, let him find his own way and see how that works for him.

On top of his outstanding successes in school, he has more integrity that most adults I know and a passle of compassion to boot. He is funny, realistic, charming, sensitive, well-mannered and a real pleasure to be around. People comment about him to me. People (teachers, friends parents, etc) comment to me about his manners, his quick wit and what a great kid he is. Don't get me wrong, he has his moments where I feel the urge to shake the crap out of him...he is human after all.

However, his success didn't happen by magic. It didn't happen by me "easing up". It happened because I have taught him well and given him many opportunities to see the world as it really is. I expect he will have many an injury. So far, he is the one slamming people to the ground, so I'll hope that continues and he's not on the receiving end of the bone breakage.

It is unfair, unsportsman like for anyone to use steroids and play sports. It creates a clear and present danger for the user and the people he or she is playing with/against. My son has learned to do things honestly and that you win and are successful by your own hard work and determination. For those players who cheat using performance enhancing drugs, they cloud a good game with deception and definite dangers.

I fully support steroid testing even though most schools don't even test for them. I'm not chilling out on my parenting. But thanks for the suggestion!
The path I've taken with my son so far has lead to really good things.

peace

Steroids are illegal, more dangerous than marijuana (by far), and are abused by scores of high school athletes. Alcohol is illegal for minors as well, and used more than weed.

Crooked system if ya ask me...

There's a possibility of anything in my life, old buddy. Just like anybody else's I suppose........

Steph, maybe you should ask him what he thinks about it. Just a suggestion from somebody that had a mom and played football in high school... my mom was the original socker mom, Steph.
