It’s A Doobie — Er, Doozy Of A Show

The second season of the Showtime comedy Weeds, about a pot-dealing mom in suburban California, will fire up at 10 tonight. (Sorry, couldn’t resist.)

Mary-Louise Parker won a Golden Globe this year for her portrayal of Nancy Botwin, the widowed mother of two boys.

The homogenous community of Agrestic (city motto: "Agrestic, the best of the bestic") and all its repressed richperson angst provide the setting for wry social commentary.

Weeds doesn’t try to pretend there aren’t risks in the pot business, and Nancy’s explanation that she sells only to make ends meet doesn’t wash with some viewers, I’m sure.

But while marijuana is the centerpiece, each tightly scripted episode is just as likely to touch on the difficulties of marriage, parenthood and social status — often with laugh-out-loud results.

The second season picks up where the first left off: Nancy in the bedroom of a new flame who turns out to be a federal drug agent.

Nevertheless, Nancy decides to forge ahead with plans to grow her own product.

All the while, she’s trying to retain control of her household, which includes a surly teenage son, his troubled younger brother, her wholly inappropriate brother-in-law and a maid who knows Nancy’s green secret and uses it as an excuse not to work.

Weeds is quirky and daring television for grown-ups. I highly recommend it.

a show that depicts herb in a "different" light. Normal people, like us, doing normal things that smoke herb.

I "highly" recommend this show to anyone who has lived one day, stoned, in a real life.

Like the article said too, the dialogue and storyline really hold you for a sitcom slash drama, if your into that kinda thing, plus they thro in the sex for the adults among us out here who actually do the giggity giggity every once in awhile

What was I talking about? Oh yeah, WEEDS is really cool, and the theme song is great at the start of the show, " Little Boxes Made Of Ticky Tack..."

I guess you can tell, I really like the show, plus the chic, Mary Louise-Parker, she's a hotty, and she's in my age range, which is broke in......
