The hippocampus is an area of the brain essential to memory formation. It is unusual because it grows new neurons over a person’s lifetime. Researchers believe these new cells help to improve memory and fight depression and mood disorders.

Many drugs -— heroin, cocaine, and the more common alcohol and nicotine — inhibit the growth of these new cells. It was thought that marijuana did the same thing, but this new research suggests otherwise.
This makes good sense to me in that a good, uplifting sativa improves creativity and some long-term memory.

It also might explain short term memory effects of cannabis in that there are so many more thoughts going on that you might absent-mindedly forget something . . .
- like what you were about to say or where you just set your keys
or if you put the milk back in the refrigerator - all as if you are thinking too fast ahead of yourself.

But indica strains might have more of a dulling, narcotic effect so maybe there are cannabinoid differences in the brain cell growth ?

ST. JOHN’S, Nfld — Supporters of marijuana may finally have an excuse to smoke weed every day. A recent study in the Journal of Clinical Investigation suggests that smoking pot can make the brain grow.

Though most drugs inhibit the growth of new brain cells, injections of a synthetic cannibinoid have had the opposite effect in mice in a study performed at the University of Saskatchewan. Research on how drugs affect the brain has been critical to addiction treatment, particularly research on the hippocampus.

Many drugs -— heroin, cocaine, and the more common alcohol and nicotine — inhibit the growth of these new cells. It was thought that marijuana did the same thing, but this new research suggests otherwise.

Neuropsychiatrist Xia Zhang and a team of researchers study how marijuana-like drugs — known collectively as cannabinoids — act on the brain.

The team tested the effects of HU-210, a potent synthetic cannabinoid similar to a group of compounds found in marijuana. The synthetic version is about 100 times as powerful as THC, the high-inducing compound loved by recreational users.
I knew this study would eventually be published. THC is known to be neuro-protective on brain tissue so why wouldn't it increase brain cells?

Cannabis is also a mild psychedelic.......psychedelics expand your mind and brain.

Default sounds good to me

That sounds good to me. Lets now do studies to find out how cannabinoids can perhaps be used with people that have suffered from things like blunt trauma to the head.

What exactly is a "THC overdose" ?

Cannabis is competely non-toxic, there is no such thing as an overdose.

Unlike aspirin, caffeine, alcohol, and just about everything else you can name.

There is definitely an overdose, just not a really bad one

You can certainly end up confused and sick as hell with too much thc. Mainly if you're a noob smoker this is an issue.

I agree with that 2nd part. But in order to over dose... Lets say, if you're 140 lbs person... most likely you gonna need to smoke 140 lbs of weed to over dose and is that even possible? no, not in my eyes

Everybody passes out by time you've smoked half oz to your dome, and this proves that overdosing on marijuana are just impossible unless you wanna blow millions of dollars in one day.

That study has been done right hear at MJ.com. Read a few more of the post. The cannabinoids apparently don't help. You've been a member long enough, it should be obvious.
After 30+ years of smoking pot, I must be a friggin' genius.
now what ya think of their study?
