Drug paraphernalia seized from liquor stores

Drug paraphernalia including hundreds of glass pipes, several water pipes, digital scales and hashish grinders were seized Thursday from two Carson Valley liquor stores.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office reported that no arrests were made pending a review by the District Attorney's office.

Sale of drug paraphernalia is a Category E felony.

A store manager for Lucky Liquor declined comment. The manager at Rancho Liquors could not be reached.

The sheriff's office Street Enforcement Team was tipped to the paraphernalia sales by a Douglas High School student arrested on campus for distributing marijuana.

According to reports, he told the deputy assigned to the high school that he obtained a pipe at Rancho Liquors on Langley Drive.

Officers also discovered that paraphernalia was available at Lucky Liquor on Highway 395 in Gardnerville.

After undercover officers made a number of purchases from both stores, investigators obtained search warrants.

They seized 33 marijuana pipes, five water bongs, 632 glass pipes commonly used to smoke methamphetamine and other miscellaneous drug paraphernalia at Lucky Liquor.

From Ranchos Liquor, investigators seized 18 marijuana pipes, two water bongs, 21 hashish grinders, four digital scales commonly used to weigh drugs and 67 glass pipes.

What this means is that every headshop in the United States could probably be shutdown, what's stopping it from happening? The place i go to will not sell you tell them you want to look at a bong for bowl because then they know exactly what your using it for. It's possible that it can be used for tobacco purposes. Did the clerk have a sign sayin BONGS, BOWLS, or did he just call them pipes and water pipes?

They busted a high school student for distributing pot and then ask where he got the pipe from? Something doesn't add up. You would think that they would want to know where the marijuana came from! He gives up someone selling pipes. You don't rat anyone out period!

Some people buy glass pipes to collect them, not everyone uses them for tobacco or other drugs and just likes collecting them.

I like how the story describes the pipes, 33 of them that could be used for marijuana and glass pipes that are used for meth. Do they know what they are talking about? Any pipe could be used for marijuana. Everyone i know including myself that has a glass pipe doesn't use them to smoke meth.

Then they go on to say the grinders are for hash. I could get a grinder too but hash isn't common in my area.

Why the hell did they need to go undercover for unless these were bein sold in a backroom or something and were labled as bongs or bowls or was the clerks specifically sayin what they can use them for? Any cop could walk into a headshop in uniform and buy a pipe, it's not illegal unless the clerk is telling them that they can use illegal substances in them. Everything they found in this bust they are sayin, well this was used for marijuana, this is used for meth, and this is used for hash. Did they say this to the undercover cops?

It's like walking into a hydroponics store and arresting the people selling the equipment sayin well some people use this stuff to grow marijuana and we just busted someone for growing a illegal plant so your responsible for their actions because they said they got some of their equipment from your store! The clerk would only be responsible if the buyer said i'm using this to grow pot and then the person still sells the equipment to them or they have a big sign sayin "ALSO WORKS GOOD FOR GROWING MARIJUANA."

They might as well raid Home Depot. I know for a fact that they sell stuff that someone could use to grow and smoke out of.

The easiest pipe I can think of is 6" x .5" galvanized pipe nipple with a 90º elbow screwed onto the end. Stick in a screen and you're good-to-go. For something more elegant, silver solder a 90º elbow onto the end of a 6" piece of half-inch copper pipe. (Do not use lead-based solder!) The copper will polish up and look really pretty.
