Drug raid nets one arrest in Mount Vernon

A second drug raid in the city's Fleetwood section in a 24-hour span Saturday night resulted in a felony drug charge.

Mount Vernon police executed a search warrant Saturday night at a multi-family house at 472 Gramatan Ave., recovering 10 grams of cocaine and an unspecified quantity of marijuana.

Police arrested Joseph Mosca, 40, of that address, Apt. BB4. He was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony, and unlawful possession of marijuana. He was being held in police custody pending arraignment.

The 8 p.m. raid came less than 24 hours after another operation at 49 Orchard St., also in Fleetwood. There, police arrested a resident on charges of selling marijuana andon weapons possession.

Police said they had received complaints about drug sales in the Orchard Street area and that began began monitoring the location, which is near two elementary schools.

On Friday evening, officers moved in with a search warrant and made a handful of arrests involving marijuana possession.

Dominic Fiteni, 25, who lives there and works in a delicatessen on the bottom floor, was charged with misdemeanor counts of marijuana possession and sale, police said. Police said they confiscated five ounces of marijuana, and they also said he was in possession of brass knuckles, a double-edged dagger and a billy club, leading to a misdemeanor charge of weapons possession.

Bail information was not available yesterday.

As police moved in, they said, they found a number of people in the area who were smoking pot or who had recently purchased it. A 20-year-old woman from Bronxville, a 20-year-old man from New Rochelle, a 21-year-old man from Scarsdale and a 38-year-old man from Mount Vernon were charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, violations.
