Default PA: Killing feud goes to cyberspace

Killing feud goes to cyberspace
Victim's, defendant's mothers take to Web

01-18-07 | Post-Gazette.Com | Jonathan D. Silver

Even as Walter Stawarz IV sits in jail awaiting trial in the fatal beating of Jeremy Delon, 15, the mothers of both teens have taken their sparring campaigns for justice to cyberspace.

Writing on the social networking Web site MySpace.com, Michele Delon said she wanted the "monster" who killed her son in 2005 put away for life.

Some of Mrs. Delon's comments, directed to Walter's mother, and her vehement denials of guilt, leave little doubt that she believes the police have arrested the right person.

"If he is so innocent and he didn't kill Jeremy you wouldn't be so offended. Your reaction to that tells it all. I never said anyone in particular, just so happens your son is the one that did it," Mrs. Delon wrote.

On her own MySpace.com page, Judith Stawarz says authorities falsely accused her son. She said two others, men with whom Walter, 17, was acquainted, severely beat Jeremy in a wooded area on the banks of the Ohio River in Hopewell and left him to die July 21, 2005. He died nine days later.

Her son, she said, was a witness to the beating, but he refused to provide details to investigators because they could not promise to protect him or his family. Instead, she says, they took the easy road and arrested the most convenient person based on circumstantial evidence.

"The cops know about this information I'm talking about, but they don't want to do anything about it. They just wanted to grab someone," Mrs. Stawarz said this week. "They didn't have any evidence. They still don't have the weapon."

The mothers' war of words, by turns piercing and heart-wrenching as each woman defends her son, dramatically illustrates the toll Jeremy's death and Walter's arrest have taken on both families.

"I just hope God can help me live with all of this hate in my heart, and I know he will," Mrs. Delon wrote.

"Walter is innocent, and one day in court they will hear the truth from my son's own mouth," Mrs. Stawarz wrote. "It is just a shame that this young boy has to go through all this at this time in his young life. Nothing will ever change the damage that it must be doing to his mind and his soul."

Police have said Jeremy Delon was beaten and his throat was slit during a drug deal. According to court testimony and police documents, Jeremy contacted Walter on the day of the beating to buy $30 worth of marijuana.

Jeremy showed up at Walter's West Aliquippa home. Jeremy's friends found him unconscious that evening near the river. He had suffered irreversible brain damage from blows to the head, according to court papers citing his autopsy report.

Investigators soon focused on Walter, the last person known to have seen Jeremy before the beating. A witness, Gary Crutchman, told authorities that, on the night Jeremy was hurt, Walter told him he had beaten someone near the river and asked him to craft an alibi that they were playing video games together. Gary testified at a preliminary hearing that Walter had blood on his khaki pants.

Upon executing a search warrant at the Stawarz house, investigators say, they found khaki pants and a broken hockey stick under the floorboards of his room.

Mrs. Stawarz says that, contrary to what the police have said, her son told her the pants were under his bed, not hidden under the floorboards. She said the blood was Jeremy's, but came "from when, I guess, the guy stabbed him and my son ran."

Mrs. Stawarz described her son as a frequent drug connection for Jeremy.

"This was not the first time Jeremy asked him to get drugs for him," Mrs. Stawarz, 51, said. "He would go and he would get them the drugs. My son would smoke a [marijuana cigar] with them."

On the day Jeremy was beaten, Mrs. Stawarz said, Walter had trouble finding anyone with marijuana to sell.

"There's no weed around at the time. Walter tried everywhere to get weed for him," Mrs. Stawarz said. "Evidently, he went to these two guys who he knew."

Based on information gleaned from her son and attorneys familiar with the case, Mrs. Stawarz said her son was on a rope swing at the end of a path by the Ohio River when he heard Jeremy being beaten by the two men.

"From what I understand, he heard the beating and he went running over there and tried to stop it, but it was too late," Mrs. Stawarz said.

Police were aware of at least one of the men, who remained a suspect until shortly before Walter's arrest July 28, 2005, according to a transcript of a court hearing this month.

Beaver County District Attorney Anthony J. Berosh could not be reached for comment. Mrs. Delon, who was awaiting permission from Mr. Berosh to comment for this article, had not received it by press time.

The trial is scheduled to start in March.

Prohibition claims another victim... It's hard to believe that someone could get killed over $30 worth of weed, but when you put the distribution of a popular drug into the hands of criminals there is bound to be an element of violence.

I totally agree with you -Above me-

If marijuana was legal... no teens would be getting shot by any fool working in dirty system. I'd much prefer to try to convince somebody within age limit to buy some green from a store for me than calling a friend to call up a sketch dealer that might screw whole thing up for a small greedy reason and on other hand... a friend going to store and picking some green up for me, that wont get me killed or at least wont put me in the way of such harm except smoking health issues.

Another opinion of mine input...
Only if... these ignorant people stop trying to link marijuana to crimes when at same time we all know drugs doesn't tell us what to do and the ones who caused violent are at fault for making such bad decision.... so thus their argument equals failure.

Cool

"Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men?" An old quote but appropriate perhaps in this case........Probably no one will ever know the real reason, will they?

Angry Jeremy wasn't killed over the pot...

He was murdered because the Monster who killed him wanted the $30 that Jeremy had. At the time he must have thought it was worth a lifetime in prison to get $30 for nothing. And what's another life to him?

And God forbid he pay a REAL price for murdering someone.

This is the sister of Walter Stawarz the 4th, who was accused of murdering Jeremy Delon. In fact, all he was, was a witness. He tried to protect his friend, but couldn't. So now he has been sentenced to life in prison without parole, and the real murderers (Eric Bruce and William Huskins) will never have to pay for taking away two lives. One of Jeremy Delon, and another of Walter Stawarz the 4th. Sabrina Guido

Victim's, defendant's mothers take to Web

Even as Walter Stawarz IV sits in jail awaiting trial in the fatal beating of Jeremy Delon, 15, the mothers of both teens have taken their sparring campaigns for justice to cyberspace.

The trial is scheduled to start in March (One day all will see that walter was falsely convicted, is innocent, and the truth will come out about the corruption that was involved in his case.My son sits in jail because Beaver County, Pa. is so corrupt and ruled by organized crime and coverups. He is not the only victim though, there are many others, including a man falsely convicted of the shooting of Aliquippa police officer James Niam.Beaver County Judges are the most corrupt of all. The corruption starts at Aliquppa police dept. the D.A.'s office and straight up to the courts.Organized crime will be exposed"one day". It is inevitable, but a shame that my son and others must suffer because of it.Walter did not kill his friend Jeremy, and the two men who did walk free.Jeremy's mom has also befriended on her son's attackers. If people knew the truth to the corruption instead of believing the lies they would be amazed. One day everyone will know the truth in time. The reason he was set up to take the fall was because one of the men who attacked Jeremy was spilling his guts about the Mayor of Aliquippa, and corruption, he and other officials were involved in.Walter was the perfect scapegoat, and his entire trial was a farce. It is alot easier to set a young boy up, than to face the exposure of organized crime !!!.....PEOPLE WHO DO NOT KNOW THE FACTS SHOULD NOT BE SO JUDGEMENTAL.WALTER WAS FALSELY CHARGED AND CONVICTED BECAUSE OF "ORGANIZED CRIME".HE WAS A SCAPEGOAT TO PROTECT THE ALREADY TARNISHED REPUTATION OF THE MAYOR OF ALIQUIPPA (WHO WAS INVOLVED IN THE COVERUP HIMSELF) AND TO KEEP ONE OF THE REAL ATTACKERS FROM COMING OUT WITH INFORMATION OF ALL OF THE CORRUPTION.tHE INFORMATION WILL COME OUT.JEREMY AND WALTER WERE BOTH VICTIMS>>>>>>>OF ORGANIZED CRIME<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<....IT WAS AN ELECTION YEAR, IT WAS ALOT EASIER TO SEND AN INNOCENT BOY TO JAIL FOR LIFE THAN TO HAVE AN ENTIRE RULING DEMOCRATIC COUNTY CRUMBLE TO THE EXPOSURE OF CORRUPTION WITHIN ITSELF.............and if anyone finds this hard to believe they can go to John Mukanos who ran against the Mayor of Aliquippa..........his campaigns were also the victims of organized crime, and the leader of that was who else but (the mayor himself).THIS WILL NEVER GO AWAY UNTIL THE EVIL ONES THEMSELVES ARE EXPOSED !!!!

LET US NOT FORGET ...THAT THE MAYOR OF ALIQUIPPA WAS INVOLVED IN THE HIDING OF EVIDENCE AND THE COVERUP TO HELP PROTECT THE REAL ATTACKER, BECAUSE THE REAL ATTACKER WAS SPILLING HIS GUTS ABOUT THE CORRUPTION OF CITY OFFICIALS.THE ONE HOSTILE WITNESS WHO SPOKE OUT TO OTHERS THAT HE KNEW AND SAW THAT WALTER DID NOT DO THE CRIME ,DENIED HIS SUPBEONA FOR COURT AND WAS BROUGHT INTO THE TRIAL IN STRIPES AN HANDCUFFS! (HE WAS A RELATIVE OF THE MAYOR AND WAS SCARED TO DEATH TO OPEN HIS MOUTH UP AGAINST HIS OWN FAMILY AND ORGANIZED CRIME) THE MAYORS NAME WAS NOT BROUGHT UP IN TRIAL AT ALL BECAUSE IT WAS AN ELECTION YEAR, AND THE COURTS AND JUDGES ACCOMODATED THE COVERUP ITSELF BY NOT LETTING INTO TRIAL ANY OF THE EVIDENCE THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN DAMAGING TO THEMSELVES ALSO! IT WILL ALL BE EXPOSED...ONEDAY!!
