Default USA: Marijuana legalized or not?

Marijuana legalized or not?
01.23.07|Campus Chronicle|Rhapeal Rhoden

The U.S. is wasting more money on keeping the drug illegal instead of worrying about more important issues." If it cost less to legalize the use of marijuana, what are we waiting on?

Our society has been weakened economically and socially due to the illegal smuggle, sell, and use of marijuana. The crime rate will never decrease as long as thugs are trying to get their hands on "weed" in an effort to make a quick dollar. Quick dollars bring fast death!

Its ironic but most people desire what they cannot have. If weed becomes legal, many may lose interest. Users of marijuana may also learn to smoke responsibly just as those who learned to drink responsibly after liquor was legalized. There are a lot of people who say that marijuana is a bad drug and it can kill your brain cells. but it seems than many brains are already dead according to news and its report of the kids who drop out of school to sell weed. Marijuana, if legalized would help heal the ills that many communities face because of the prevalence of drugs.

If marijuana was legalized, it could do the following: cut down on crime rates, provide increased spending power for important issues in the U.S., instead of spending $11 billion a year trying to stop marijuana use, they could gain money by taxing it, putting the money to other drug control programs."

Truthfully, I have never heard of marijuana killing anyone, unless someone put PCP or methane in it. I belive the drug doesn't do any damage, although it stimulates the mind. I have known people in high school to use the drug especially when it came around to tests. Although, I would become angry because I studied my "A.s" off to make a good grade but the marijuana users would score higher than me.

From a philosophical point of view, indivduals deserve the right to make choices for themselves. The government only has a right to limit those choices if the individual's actions endanger someone else.

This does not apply to marijuana since the indvidual who chooses to use marijuana does so according to his or her own free will. The government also may have a right to limit individual actions if the actions pose significant threat to the individual.

But this argument does not logically apply to marijuana because it is far less dangerous than some drugs which are legal.

The drug should be legalized for the fact that it does not do any damage, it provides relief for AIDS and cancer patients dealing with pain, and cut down on the cost of keeping the the drug illegal.

Perhaps if the author smoked some pot he'd improve his grammar, his usage, and his spelling....
