Medical marijuana on council agenda

The Ridgecrest City Council will meet Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. to consider three ordinances relating to medical marijuana.

The council will consider introducing two such ordinances. The first is an ordinance that would regulate the operation of medical-marijuana dispensaries. The council, in December 2006 voted to table the proposed ordinance to allow the staff to make further revisions.

This item has been the subject of debate between patients and residents who oppose such businesses in the city.


The second proposed ordinance would prohibit such businesses in the city limits.

The council will consider an ordinance extending by three months the moratorium on issuance of business licenses to medical-marijuana dispensaries. The moratorium expires March 15.

Also on the agenda is a presentation of the recently completed audit and midyear budget report.


Mojave Airport Manager Stu Witt will address the council on the importance of air corridors and airspace.

The council will meet in closed session at 6 p.m. to discuss real-property negotiations regarding the former USO building and a lot in the Ridgecrest Business Park.

The meeting will take place in the City Council Chambers and will be broadcast on Mediacom Channel 6.
