Default CA: Medical Marijuna I.D. Applications Now Being Taken

Medical Marijuna I.D. Applications Now Being Taken
06-02-07|CBS2

Los Angeles County has started taking applications for medical marijuana identification cards.

The applications are available from the Department of Public Health and will be processed by state officials. The cards will be issued next month, county officials said.

The county charges $153 for the identification cards, which were to be issued as part the legislation legalizing pot for medical purposes. People eligible for Medi-Cal pay $76.50.

The cards will enable holders to get pot from designated dispensaries.

And the hits just keep on coming.

And I mean that in a good way. While there are those who will complain about the $, it's both a small price to pay for access to a year's worth of medication as well as being another positive step toward the legitimization of cannabis across the board.
We're talking governmental solidarity here.
After all, Los Angeles, one of the largest municipalities in the United States, if not the World.

If that was the only way to get medical marijuana, it would be a small price to pay. In CA, all you need is a recommendation from a doctor. The card just makes it easier to check up on you if you get stopped. Besides the expense, getting a card puts you on a database that could be subpoenaed by the DEA if they decide to crack down on individual marijuana users.

All of us hippies thought that marijuana would be legal by the end of the 70s. That's what Keith Stroup thought when he started NORML. We're still waiting. Some of us are working to get us there. Unfortunately, far too few of us care enough to help.

No small thing, if you've ever been stopped.
But my point is that having governmental entities, one after another, partner up with their participation, establishes yet another precident that in no small way will lead to full legalization.

Well, as in all battles, some of us (and I understand those that don't) are willing to put ourselves out there for the "cause".
We have gained huge momentum in these last years. Mark my words. "We're well past the 'tipping point'".

Not this hippie. We weren't anywhere close back then as far as I could see.
And you are so right; we need everyone to take a moment - especially all you young folk out there - and understand that there are so many ways to help make legalization of marijuana a reality. We see time and time again the frustration expressed by so many of our youth.
If you all would take just 10 or 15 minutes out of what your week requires and help out in ways no matter how small, not only would the result be tremendous, but the satisfaction that you would feel would be every bit as good as the fine bud you are so fortunate to smoke.

I've said it before and I'll say it again,
Buzzby - you have been, and continue to be, both a great inspiration and advocate. Each time I read one of your posts whereby you so patiently repeat the refrain of 'Folks please, you need to get active' I nod my 'ol hippie head with appreciation beyond measure. Keep the faith brother -
Om shanti shanti shanti...

When Jimmy Carter became President in 1977, we thought we had it made. He had been an advocate of legalizing marijuana. Unfortunately, the realities of being President, requiring support, and making compromises quickly took that off of his agenda.

Of course, we also thought that love and LSD would transform the world into a paradise... We were young and irrationally hopeful.
