Deal reached in Damon Stoudamire's Tucson pot case

Marijuana possession charges filed against Memphis Grizzlies player Damon Stoudamire four years ago will go away under a deal announced this morning in Pima County Justice Court.
The former University of Arizona guard player was charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, both misdemeanors, in July 2003 after he tried to pass through a security checkpoint at Tucson International Airport.
This morning, Deputy Pima County Attorney Bruce Chalk announced that he and defense attorney Michael Piccarreta worked out an agreement that is both beneficial to Stoudamire and Tucson youth.
The marijuana and paraphernalia charges will be dismissed against Stoudamire if does four things within the next six months.
First, Stoudamire must give the University of Arizona’s athletic department $45,000 in scholarship funds for needy and at-risk youth who want to participate in Lute Olson’s and Joan Bonvicini's basketball camps.
In addition, Stoudamire must submit two negative drug tests, avoid any criminal convictions and report any arrests, Chalk said.
If Stoudamire fails to comply, Chalk said Judge Paul Simon could make a determination as to Stoudamire’s guilt based on evidence introduced at earlier court proceeding.
