| Corby denied sentence cut for a second time 12-26-`07 | The Jakarta Post Australian convicted cannabis smuggler Schapelle Corby was again denied a sentence cut this year for using a mobile phone in prison earlier this year, Antara reported. Corby, the Gold Coast native who was sentenced to 20 years in prison for smuggling 4.2 kilograms of marijuana from Australia in 2004, was left off a list of 81 convicts at the Kerobokan State Penitentiary in Denpasar, Bali, who were recommended a sentence reduction as a 2007 Christmas gift. Corby was allegedly caught using a cellular phone, which is illegal in prison, barring her from any sentence cut for a full year. Alleged mobile phone indiscretions also saw her denied a sentence cut for Indonesia's independence on Aug. 17. She was caught on Oct. 8, 2004 at the Ngurah Rai Airport in Denpasar after acknowledging she was the owner of a boogie board bag in which marijuana was stashed. She has served three years out of the 20-year sentence.

| Asia is a real bad place to be a pot smoker for the most part. Her original sentence was the death penalty but they knocked it down to 20 years in prison. She is going to do a very long time in jail and she really needs to thank God she only got 20 years. The phrase..."Don't do the crime if you can't do the time." applies here to the Nth degree. |
