A proposal to let medical marijuana patients in Sacramento County get special I.D. cards has gone up in smoke. After hearing both sides of the issue, the Board of Supervisors voted against it.

California voters approved the law in 1996 that allows sick and dying patients to grow and smoke the drug to relieve chronic symptoms. The state requires counties issue identification cards for medical marijuana users and maintain a registry of people who apply for the cards.

Since then 40 out of 58 counties in the state adopted Medical Marijuana I.D. Cards.

This decision places Sacramento County among 18 counties that don't recognize I.D. cards for medical marijuana.

Advocates for the I.D. cards were hoping to light a flame under the board, and although they did sway a couple of board members, it wasn't enough.

they need to wake up alot of people tired of the b.s. up that way are comming down here so.cal.and we are accepting them but when we were going up there for meds they act like we were from another planet get this thing together or get out the marching shoes and let's have a peaceful march to the capitol
