| PM backs re-classifying cannabis 4-2-'07 | The Press Association Gordon Brown has said he is determined to send a signal to young people that the use of cannabis is "unacceptable". At his monthly Downing Street news conference, the Prime Minister indicated his strong support for re-classifying cannabis again as a Class B drug. His comments came ahead of the expected review this month of the Advisory Council on Drugs of the decision to downgrade it to a Class C drug. While Mr Brown said that he would consider the council's report, he made clear that he believed that change was necessary. "I believe that if we are sending out a signal particularly to teenagers, and particularly those at the most vulnerable age, young teenagers, that we in any way find cannabis acceptable, given all that we now know about the changes in the way cannabis is being sold in this country, that is not the right thing to do," he said. "My personal view has been pretty well known for some time. Given the changing nature of the stock of cannabis that is coming into the country and greater damage that that appears to be doing to people who use it, there is a stronger case for sending out a signal that cannabis is not only illegal but it is unacceptable."

| Farewell, Mr. Brown. After the vote of no confidence, perhaps your successor will be able to accept the reality that cannabis is here to stay and that it is far less harmful than the legal recreational drugs that your government regulates.

| He's just bowing to the U.S. pressure to remain in the party line as far as the drug war. I bet his own people think he's laughable....... ![]() Ya know what they say, one step up and two steps back....... I do agree with him about the wrong signal being sent to the younger crowd. We should push drug education and legalization. Most of all we should quit telling the kids all these lies about herb and let them make "informed" decisions about their own lives...... Some Where In Ded Land........... ![]()

| my best friends brother is a cop and he and his cop buddies go to Amsterdam every year to smoke weed together. I got him stoned good a bunch of times while he was here on holiday. He told me he never busts people for weed often times letting them keep thier stash, unless the folks are unruly, then he cruses it on the street. He told me he will not change his practice if the drug goes back to class B. |
