| Store Security Guard Arrested In Drug Sweep 5/10/08 wkrc.com Cincinnatti, Ohio Store Security Guard Arrested In Drug Sweep Cincinnati Police say Charles Conard, a security guard at Deveroe's clothing store at McMillan and Gilbert in Walnut Hills, was dealing drugs while on duty. Police are booking a security guard into jail, accused of dealing drugs on the job. Cincinnati Police went after suspected dealers at McMillan and Gilbert in Walnut Hills late Friday afternoon. They say their main target was the man hired to protect customers at the Deveroe's clothing store. If everybody knows Deveroe's clothing stores, everyone Local 12 asked in Walnut Hills recognizes a security guard named Charles Conard on duty daily at the Deveroe's at McMillian and Gilbert. But not everyone can believe what the guard is doing at the store. "It's crazy," said Monique Smith, Walnut Hills. "I didn't know he was doing that. I thought he was just security at Deveroe's." The shop was shut down Friday, after a Vortex drug bust in and outside of the shop. Officers arrested Conard in his First Choice Security uniform, complete with badge. Undercover Vortex officers say they've been watching Conard sell pot to people as he was working security. He even allegedly sold to an undercover cop posing as a Deveroe's customer. "Here's a person who is entrusted by the public to protect people, but really what he was doing was using the gun and badge for profit," said Lt. Bruce Hoffbauer, Cincinnati Police Vortex. "In this case it was the selling of drugs." Police say the dealer was dangerous, packing this 9mm handgun and three cartridges of ammunition. Police say Conard even chased off competing drug dealer. They say this had the potential to turn into a turf war. "If push came to shove, if something didn't go the way it was planned, he had a firearm at hand, it could have turned very tragic," said Lt. Hoffbauer. A Deveroe's regional manager had no comment Friday night. First Choice Security wouldn't talk about its guard either. The store manager, Kennisha Catlin, was also arrested for having marijuana in her purse. Two other men were arrested in the bust. Police say they found Lovell Brown, 35, with $3,100 in cash and a scale used to weigh drugs. Police say Michael Simms, 30, had 19 baggies of crack cocaine on him. | AS a gun owner, my first thought was "Why would you have a 9mm (usually capable of holding 10-17 rounds) and only three cartidges. I'm guessing this was a typical media error (all too common when it comes to gun-related stories). It makes more sense that he'd be carrying 3 MAGAZINES of caridges, one in the gun, and two on his duty belt. Just a pet peeve I had to point out, because I'm sick of the media's constant inaccuracies when dealing with all issues related to firearms.

| AND LET ME ask the people this... IN what way has he caused harm, in what way will he pose a threat to humanity. NONE! he was simply selling pot to people who couldnt get it. now more people lost a weed dealer that seems safe enough, and who knows... MAYBE they will turn to CRACK, or HEROINE, or METH, OR ALCOHOL... Good job DEA, you seem to think your helping but your only making it worse. Let kids experience pot when their young! they need too... once you get older, your more prone to drinking... more prone to drugs if you do it later in life, instead of learning earlier and getting it over with, LIKE ME. I smoked meth, crack, heroine.... done Extacy, acid, shrooms, and my fair share of pain killers... and i quit ALL of them because MARIJUANA, POT, WEED, was the "medicine" of choice for me. Now my addiction is GONE for all the above hard drugs, and i can EASILY turn down smoking weed, instead of trying to turn down heroine (practically impossible) The DEA fails in my books |

It never says that he used his weapon to threaten anyone. As a security guard he was armed and prepared to defend himself. As a drug dealer he was armed but he was a dealer and a target for getting robbed. Then they say it could have turned into a turf war lol. From what we know just from the article they never said he was connected to some big gang drug dealing ring! He was probably just selling the pot for his own profit. |

| It says he was a store security guard but he had a gun and a badge so my question is how far can he stretch his authority as a security guard that is working in a store compared to a police officer that can work almost anywhere as long as they don't leave their jurisdication? I think he was doing his drug deals only at the store he was working at. Unless he was a police officer that travels around to different locations I can't really see this guy shaking down other drug dealers all over his town. |

| Perhaps not all over town, but I'm sure if he knew another dealer was around his area he would do something about it. Although I do admit I misread the post at first, I thought it already claimed that he was taking other dealers out of his area. |
