| I'll keep this plain and direct. I'm choosing to use the word "favourite" over "best" because it's all subjective. I think this will be a big post. Favourite System: Nintendo 64 It was the first console I owned since the grey brick Gameboy, so naturally, it's going to be my favourite system. I only wish they decided against the cartridge format, but then again, it was a smart idea on their behalf to prevent piracy. Cartridge does deliver instant loading, if it does suffer from lack of storage capcity. It doesn't seem too limited when you look at games like Turok 2, Perfect Dark and Zelda, those games are huge. I also honestly think the 64 controller is the best design ever, it just fits your hand so well and every button is easily accessible. Favourite Game(s) (Top 10?): Goldeneye Definitely the first that comes to mind. My very best video gaming memories come with this game, both multiplayer and single. Not since the late early 90's computer games had I really enjoyed a first person shooter. Single player was just so addictive and intense. Once finished and mastered, it's very replayable, especially when you make up your own rules to follow. It's also my favourite multiplayer game ever, hectic ****. Perfect Dark I didn't nearly have as much fun with this as I did Goldeneye, but it's still very good. I know it was meant to be different and therefore fresher, but I think my hype for it being billed as the "Goldeneye Sequel" left me a bit disappointed. I might've liked it better than Goldeneye if it came out first. It probably boasts the best graphics of a 64 game and has very impressive audio given the cart restrictions for a game that size. Kinda pay for that in frame-rate though. Mario Kart 64 Never owned the original, and that's why I reckon this one's superior. I dunno, there's something about the gameplay of Mario games that makes them a lot of fun for pretty much any skill level or age, Nintendo rule. Multiplayer is way up there with Goldeneye. Diddy Kong Racing A superior species to Mario Kart 64 in many aspects, except for maybe the raw pick-up-and-play gameplay. Some pretty innovative addittions above MK as well. Infinitely tougher to beat than MK. Blast Corps Totally awesome concept. I don't know what genre it'd fall into, maybe some weird kind of RPG/Puzzle hybrid. It's ****en addictive, huge, and really tough to beat. I still haven't completely finished everything, it seems beyond my skill. FIFA World Cup '98 Single player, it's good fun for a while, but lacks longevity. I've probably had the most fun out of its multiplayer over the last two years, every game is different so it's always fresh. It can really push the extreme levels of intensity, frustration and excitement. Super Mario 64 The very first console game I ever owned, and it was pretty revolutionary, so i've got good memories of it. I was glued to it till I finished it, and that's the first of two complaints I have about it, it was too quick and easy to finish. It's been just over 6 years since I bought it, and yesterday I finished it for the third time (it took 3 days), so it's not very replayable for me, that's my second and final complaint. Banjo Kazooie Again, it suffers from lack of replay value. I think it just might be the fact that you're in a 3D world though, as 2D scrolling platformers seem to have better replay value, although you'd think it'd be the other way around. I think Banjo beats Mario in every single aspect, especially size, world and enemy design, and difficulty. Without a doubt my favourite platform game ever. Donkey Kong 64 It would probably beat BJ if I didn't find the role playing so tedious. It goes steps ahead again in many aspects of 3D platformers since BJ, but it always comes down to gameplay that's most important. x-Quest Sierra games: Most of my younger video gaming days were taken up with these games. I remember they'd last forever because I was such a slow typer, but they were so enveloping and addictive. I just loved the way the games played your curiosity, inquisitiveness and thirst for adventure. I'd have to say Space Quest II was my favourite, and I don't think I played them all. Favourite Game Developers: If you were paying attention to my favourite games, you'd probably already know my answer to this - Rare Ware. Rare are easily my favourite developers, just about all their games for the 64 were innovative and quality. It's a shame they've left Nintendo for Microsoft, as I was planning on getting a GameCube, I don't know anymore. Nintendo are probably my second choice, as their games (especially Mario ones) are just so much fun. Just about any person of any skill level or age can pick up one of their games and have fun. They are also just about the pioneers of video gaming as we know it today, I think they deserve a hell of a lot of respect, no matter what you think of their games. Gee, I hope this thread gets some replies, I'll look like a fool for typing all that out otherwise.

| what do u want us to reply with? our opinions? overall, i definitly agree with all your stats. mario kart 64, i would play that game with my friends ALL THE TIME, and i still do. it never gets old. same goes for golden eye. the video game that brings back the most memorys, and the game i spent the most time playing, was Sierra's Lode Runner on the computer. oh my god i played this every day a few hours a day for the longest time. it had over 900 single player levels, and about 30 or something multiplayer levels, so it never got boring. plus, it came free with my computer .

| I figure you wanted our favorites too? Here's mine: Favorite System: PC The PC whips console systems into submission. Nothing tops the graphics, and a mouse is infinitely easier to use than controllers. Favorite Console: SNES That being said, I do have a favorite console. The SNES was awesome. *Is* awesome. It was highly innovative for its time, with beautiful graphics and surprisingly good music. I am a firm believer that limitations enhance the creativity of a game. Games made for SNES didn't rely on the way they looked to sell. They were made for the gameplay - which I think should still be #1 on any good developer's list. My second favorite console would be the PS/PS2. Favorite Games: Exile I, II, III, Avernum, and Blades of Exile (PC) - This series, although old, is one of the most playable, enjoyable RPGs I have played on the PC. Surprisingly enough, these have brilliant replay value - not what you would expect from an RPG. Chrono Trigger (SNES) - THE best RPG made for SNES. (IMO). Superb gameplay, superb graphics, killer music.. a 10/10. Galaga (Upright) - I still play this on an emulator every chance I get. It is a challenging, skill-developing shoot-em-up galaxian style game. My high score is 168130, level 23. Hitman 2 (PC) - Surprisingly enough for a modern game, this one doesn't fall back on its graphics for replay value. Don't get me wrong - the graphics are some of the best I've seen. It is VERY challenging. You must have patience, 47. Oni (PC) - Very unique game, very cool style. Tomb-Raiderish at times, but with an anime twist. Who can resist kicking the crap out of a bad guy? Especially if you play as a hot girl with purple hair. Shogo (PC) - Fairly good FPS. The catch is that half of the time you're just a guy with a gun, and the other half of the time you're the pilot of a mechanized monolith blowing to smithereens any and all who stand in your way. Not a very ground-breaking game, not even great graphics, but very fun. Unreal Tournament (PC) - A classic. The one that got us all hooked on running around killing each other. Gungrave (PS2) - Only got the chance to play this once (so it can't technically be considered one of my favorites), but from what I played..... this one blew me away. Gungrave is the brainchild of one of the developers of Trigun. It was my friend's game, though, and from what he said it was too short, but with great replay. Super Mario Brothers 3 (NES) - Yes, go ahead and laugh. I have tons of memories of sitting in my room playing this for hours on end with my little sister. It's somewhat challenging yet still fun, the graphics are great for the system, it has catchy music, and secret levels. Who could ask for more? Though the original Mario Brothers *was* more challenging.

| For its time, I don't think much can top the SNES. I'd give SNES a 10 at the height of it's popularity and the PX1 a 9. I got the n64 based on how well the SNES was, and I was really disapointed at the game turnout. They did have some good ones like the ones you mentioned, but the volume and quality for its time couldn't compare with the SNES. After that letdown I went with the ps2. DVD, ps1 games AND ps2 games? SOLD. |

| I beat super mario 3 at my aunts house a couple months ago. It was a big deal to me as I was afraid I might not make it to bowser, and not only did I make it to bowser I beat his ass. Favorite system, PS2. N64 was great, goldeneye was very cool especially for its time, perfect dark as well. SNES was great for its day, ahh the memories, streetfighter, mario, ect... PC is of course very good, for obvious reasons, but I just don't consider it in the video game system catigory, even though it does have the ability to play games. Diddy kong racing, although possibly more childish than mario kart, was always more fun to me. I whooped with the plane. Does anybody know the name of that bug invasion killing puzzle/rpg for N64? It was fun when u got far enough.

| played a lot of games like most any kid out there, but the only game I can truly say I hold above all others is... Warcraft II! Yeah I know, it's simple and arguably very boring, but when you've played well over three thousand games in the span of 4 or 5 years (from warcraftII beta over tcp/ip right through to the Battle.net version) you get to the point where you've mastered it! I think I like the mathematical precision that RTS games reward. Well, just old, simple RTS games. Like warcraft II. oh I forgot to mention, single player sucks. It's all about the competition and using every trick in the book to beat your human opponents. Teamplay. God I had some fun times with warcraft. Way more addictive than pot! (heh, anyone else play this game?) thus ends tirade on that note Consoles? I only have an 8bit NES, long since retired and getting moldy in the basement. Favorite console/game nowadays would have to be my friend's ps2 when I get the odd chance to play it. And vice city ![]() edit: ooh, yeah, woshbosh likes warcraft 2! we should play a game sometime fgow no ot!! 20 min build time!! don't hurt meee-eeee |
