| I know I'm not likely to get many people agreeing with me on this topic, but I'll give it a shot. Does anyone else happen to think that videogames are the most unproductive activity that a person could do? I really don't like videogames. I just can't stand doing such a useless task. Who really cares if you can finish all of Final Fantasy or beat the last boss in Mario? I suppose I can understand why many people find them entertaining, I'd just rather do something a little more...real. People need to peel their eyes off the tv and go play a sport or pick up an instrument. It's so much more satisfying. |

| It is unproductive. But it is fun. Fun can lead to productivity by giving happiness to a person, then causing them to be more positive in their work. It can also expand your knowledge (sometimes) and usually makes your imagination work more. It is a way to pass the time. But, mostly, people do it for fun. It makes your brain work! It is fun to be in situations you may never be in. It is like a huge fantasy world on a screen that you can see. It gives people (including me) to control people in this situation that we may never be in and to be able to predict the outcome. When will you get to play soccer in front of thousands of people, or attack terrorists who have taken over a plane? It stiumlates the mind, and the mind is used for work. It is indirectly productive. Of course, videogames have their bad sides, but let's not go into that. But yeah, it is an opinion. Some people may not like to play sports or insturments. Video games are more availible than some of those things.

| Lets see, video GAME, it's a game? WOW! So it's supposed to be fun and entertaining...not productive. You want to be productive go work. I really don't see the point to this thread, some people like video games, some like sports, some like both...who the **** cares. EDIT: "And now, the news that every parent dreads. Researchers are reporting today that first-person-shooter video games — the kind that require players to kill or maim enemies or monsters that pop out of nowhere — sharply improve visual attention skills. Experienced players of these games are 30 percent to 50 percent better than nonplayers at taking in everything that happens around them, according to the research, which appears today in the journal Nature. They identify objects in their peripheral vision, perceiving numerous objects without having to count them, switch attention rapidly and track many items at once." There is your productivity. You are improving your visual skills. |

| Most of the fun stuff that we do is unproductive. Listening to music, watching tv/movies, smoking weed? Completely unproductive! Most of the recreational things I do are pretty unproductive, but guess what? I enjoy doing them, which is why I do them in the first place.

| You seem disgruntled for whatever reason and are reaching at reasons to justify your weak opinion. I think you should sit down for a while and actually try to get into a game, then you'll see the light.

| I agree that videogames CAN be a waste of time. Just for all those hardcores out there that have like 20 billion games and are all decked out and crap, and constantly talk about it. Sure I like videogames, but I rarely play more than 5 hours a week. It's just sad when videogames are people's lives - which is what our friend here is probably talking about. |

| What's productive about playing a sport or an instrument? There can be side benefits to activities, but that doesn't make them productive. And I definitely wouldn't say video games are the most unproductive activity. I reserve that for watching television. Quote:
