A man of this stature quitting Football and telling everyone that he smokes MJ. If I could get away with playing in the NFL and smoking regularly that would be a cool life. I was just wondering what is everyones opinion on Ricky Williams smoking? I think that he is like a pioneer for weed smokers showing that you can still smoke and live a good life, you know? Anyways post your opinions.

On ESPN a guy said 80% of the NBA smokes, which is obvious anyways. But it's not a huge realization that athletes smoke weed. They train all day and work hard. Then they com home and have a toke to relax.

What I do like I about him is that he doesn't seem to be completely driven by dollar signs, and in pro-sports these days that's not easy to find. I don't really care if he smokes or not.. but if he says he does, good for him!! Anyway, shouldn't this be in the sports section?

While I do respect the fact that he is willing to give up millions of dollars and millions more admirers, I think the way he did it was pretty horrible. He single-handedly torpedoed the Miami offense this year by telling them when he did. Corey Dillon, Eddie George, Antoine Smith, every half-decent running back in the league is gone, and Miami never got a chance to get any of them. Don't get me wrong, as a Patriots fan I like this outcome, but hate when superstars' selfish actions can take a whole team out of playoff contention and probably cost the coach his job before the year even begins. (No way does Wannstedt have this job next year...)

But from Ricky's point of view, this is pretty hard to argue. He wants to save his body from punishment, travel the world, smoke pot, meet women from every continent... Hey, maybe I AM a Ricky Williams fan after all...
