I've never really could understand the hype over NASCAR. I don't watch hardly any tv let alone sit and watch a bunch of people drive around in a circle. For me it always seemed like a waste of time.

Now my best friend is very into it and never misses a race. She has a favorite driver, Tony Stewart. She says that if you find a driver you really like and follow him...it's easy to get into it.

Personally I say to each his/her own. We all have our own interests for different reasons. On the upside with t.v. today...there's no way you can't find something else to watch.

I totally feel you on this level, I do. But the energy wasted in sport racing pales in signifigance to the energy wasted in our (read: "americans") day to day lives.

I do enjoy your satire, and I'm not trying to be smart. Take notes people, this guy is good!

Where does the eletricity ultimately come from. In most cases (read: in "america") it comes from fossil fuels or nuclear fission. I'm not trying to detract from your main point (advance alternative fuel technologies), merely trying to point out how deeply rooted we are in our ways. We must experience a LIFESTYLE change.

baseball, NASCAR, basketball, football, futbol, no matter what you call it, they're all games. some people are drawn to a specific set of rules, some are more interested in the next. i don't like watching stock cars run a modified oval on a national level, but i like trucks whipping across dunes in baja at suicidal speeds or i'm not a follower of the eagles but will stand by Barca til the day I cease to exist.

TAKE YOUR RACING TO THE TRACK WHERE IT BELONGS AND DON'T INVOLVE INNOCENT PEOPLE
I have never been fond of street racing, I think it is completely stupid. If you want to endanger your own life, that's fine but when you bring innocent people, that don't want anything to do with you trying to boost your ego, into it, that just pisses me off to no end.

Not only that, but street racing is hardly racing. If all the street racers were to actually try real racing (kart racing especially) with actual rules, on a track, they would be supprised at how much more difficult it is.

I love racing. Pretty much any kind. I don't watch NASCAR any more really, except catching the news highlights. While I may not be a big fan, I don't think it's pointless. NASCAR does play on its popularity in the South East, which may be one reason it doesn't appeal to me (I get enough of it already...). I am also a fan of technology, and NASCAR is a bit lacking in that area (atleast compared to most racing).

Now, anyone who believes that NASCAR is "just cars going round in a circle" is looking only at the surface.
This is very true. I am into road racing really, but, also, being a racer (racing karts, on sprint road courses) I understand that, even though the drivers may be only turning left, it does not mean they are less skilled. While there is some truth to that (not a whole lot though), for the most part, NASCAR drivers are every bit as skilled as their road racing peers.

As far as the cars being more or less difficult to control: you can't really tell much about how a car handles by the way it looks, or the equipment it has. You can climb into a car that has huge tires and all kinds off aerodynamic do-dads, and it still might not handle worth a crap.

Damn. I feel really bad for those guys.
Judging by your name, I'd say you might rather have some Dogfish Head.

I myself never shop at Lowe's, because I don't like the drivers they sponsor.
But if you shopped at Lowe's, they might have enough money to smooth out the huge bumps on the kart track.

Riding Bernie Eccelstone's tremendous ego, as usual.

Seriously, there are really four contenders for a win each week, either in a Ferrari or a McLaren. Amongst those four drivers, it's great racing. Everywhere else, it's a snooze-fest.

Honestly, what else is there to do?

The sad thing is, it is probably going to stay like that given the fact that engine developement is now locked for 3 years.

Not a fan of nascar, too boring for my tastes. That goes for just about every sport there is though, so whatever. I guess I'm just not a competitive guy.
