| For the past 2 weeks or so i have been smoking a bowl about an hour or two before i go to bed every night. I am currently running track and play other sports throughout the year. Will smoking a bowl every night decrease my lung capacity to the point where it could affect my sports performance? from searching on google I have found sources saying it does decrease lung capacity but others saying it does not. |

| Remember this whenever people say anything about restricting your lung's capacity: Asthma patients report benefits from cannabis, helping some to never need their inhaler again. A cigarette smoker can keep his lung capacity as high as a non-smoker if he stays active a lot. It's when you're recovering from an injury or something, and you continue to smoke, that your lung capacity gets hurt. Remember that lung capacity is different from the overall health of your lungs, it's just about how much air you can breath in. If you're planning on playing in college, or if you have the talent to make money from your abilities, DEFINITELY invest in a vaporizer. When it comes to the college and pro levels, not getting caught is more important than not harming your lungs....

| Yeah dude I'd suggest investing in a vaporizer if you're really worried. Marijuana seems to help me breathe better actually, plus stoned football is a lot more enjoyable than sober.

| I would agree with the others that a vaporizer would be useful if you want to keep smoking and play sports. I think tokin' up can have a negative impact on athletic performance, although just one bowl a night might not be much to worry about in the short term. In addition to any effects it has on your lungs, your body has to actually work a little bit in order to clean any resulting toxins from your system. We ingest toxins from many sources, drugs (including caffeine), many herbs and supplements, preservative-laden foods (any highly processed food really), cleaning chemicals, the air we breathe, the water we drink, etc. Our bodies have systems designed to help clean these toxins out (btw, exercise is the single best way to cleanse your body), but the more you stress those systems, the less ability your body will have to recover from your workouts and improve your performance. I think a vaporizer could address this issue too, since you wouldn't be inhaling all the smoke and plant byproducts (not to mention the butane). So in my opinion, based on my research, I would say it could hurt your performance. But if you keep it to a minimum, and use a vaporizer, you'd probably be alright. Keep in mind though that every single person is different, so no piece of advice will work for everyone. |

| Well, no smoke is really good smoke for the lungs.. however mj is as not bad as it gets. Its actually a bronchial dilator and so it opens up your lungs when you smoke. Evidence, used to smoke a lot of cigarettes and would take a bong rip and hock up multiple mouthfulls of shit coming from my lungs. BTW, i'm asthmatic so the cigs had to go but I'll never give up the herb. I do remember i high school though I played soccer and thought I could feel something in my lungs that was different b'twn smoking herb and smoking nothing, not sure if it was placebo or what... however I think it was more paranoia then anything and after smoking cigs for a couple years I'm so greatfull to the herb for clearing out my lungs so much. so although many people are against smoking while sick, if I've got a cold the first thing i'm doing is going for some bong rips to clear that shit out. peace, mazza |

| i played soccer in highschool and only smoked my senior year. I smoked before every game and practice and I had my best season ever. We were not that good, we had some really stong individual players, 3 others besides me, all of whome smoked alot aswell. Weed helps me get in the zone so much when it comes to playing soccer. It enables me to stay calm while alert at the same time. I have the abilitys to do alot of stuff on the soccer field and weed helps my mind create it second nature, in my opinion.
