Default The Best Single Player Video Game?

I bet this is gong to have a lot of varying answers. There were only a few that came to mind, but then I started browsing the top rated games ever, over on metacritic.com, and I really started thinking about which I would pick.

The first that came to mind was Grand Theft Auto III. Then after looking around, and completely forgetting about this game, I just have to say it...

Who DIDN'T love that fucking game? If we want to talk free roam, let's start years before GTA3 with this game. This appealed to EVERYONE, whether it was your young cousin or your middle aged aunt that has never played a video game in her life. The graphics were BEAUTIFUL, and Link was such a badass . I still have that last battle fresh in my mind...
It was almost sad beating that game...who wanted it to be over? Hell, who had the time to even do all the things in that game? I'll tell you one thing though, just talking about this makes me want to grab my N64 outta storage and play it all over again

So what do you think? What is your though on the best single player video game? If you want to put something like Halo you can, but make sure you are only talking about the single player aspects of the game

Well right now I'm playing WoW, which is really fun.

Ocarina of Time was my favorite game for a long long time, until Morrowind came around.

Ocarana of Time was a sick game but I'd have to say my favorite single player of all time is between Final Fantasy VII, Earthbound for SNES, and Zelda Twilight Princess for Wii. Good thread.

Yeah WoW is not a single player game - it's a mmorpg ; Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game.

Ocarina of Time would take the cake for me. We were just talking about best single player games the other day and I had said that was my favorite.

I'm a huge fan of the Mega man series, I have beaten ever single game -- including all X's. I also love Metal Slug but that game can be multiplayer if you choose...

Hm, how about Tetris? It's simplicity aside, I've probably spent more time playing Tetris than almost any other game known to man, I was literally glued to my Gameboy as a kid.

I'm very partial to Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath. It's a hybrid platformer/first person shooter with unbelievably fantastic atmosphere, charm and character design. The story is also second to none, and has a wonderful environmental and humanitarian message. And it's just plain really fun to play.

Harvest Moon for the N64 i spent all of one summer playing this game. It's repetitive, but i loved that game.

Half life: Blue Shift for the PC was pretty sick too.

You can make fun of me for this one if you want, but Pokemon Red and Blue for the Gameboy.

Gran Turismo 3 for the ps2. I dont know if that was pre GTA3 but its pretty close.

I concur. Those games were amazing.

I am going to add GTA:IV to this list. The single player is fun as hell

I played the first 2 oddworld games for playstation and i LOVED them. It was so much fun and then they moved to xbox and I don't have that so I was shit out of luck from there.
