| as dedbr mentioned i usually use ''i'm straight''. i really never accociate "sober" with marijuana, my connotation with that word is more towards alcohol. maybe we should all just smoke all the time, so we won't have to come up with a word? ![]() |

| If anyone asks me if i'm high i usually say "I'm straight." and one time I was high and someone asked me if I was straight, and I was like: "Uh, naw, I'm diagonal...heh".

| I just say 'I'm straight.' And no, we do not consider that in regards to sexuality because I know that's what you all were thinking. It means I am straight to drive, straight to function, straight and not trippin' balls. |

| Its not correct, if anything its a description of being high. (insert definition) Main Entry:1so·ber Etymology:Middle English sobre, from Anglo-French, from Latin sobrius; akin to Latin ebrius drunk 1 a: sparing in the use of food and drink : abstemious b: not addicted to intoxicating drink c: not drunk2: marked by sedate or gravely or earnestly thoughtful character or demeanor 3: unhurried, calm 4: marked by temperance, moderation, or seriousness <a sober candlelight vigil> 5: subdued in tone or color 6: showing no excessive or extreme qualities of fancy, emotion, or prejudice I was thinking the same thing that spiral said, " Unstoned' sounds like being stoned is your 'natural state of existence',,,". This is all going to require some thought. I havent come up with anything new yet. |

| That's odd, because that definition is in the minority... from Webster's II Collegiate Dictionary: Sober: 1. Habitually abstemious in the use of liquor: TEMPERATE. 2. Not intoxicated 3. Straightforward: serious. 4. Plain or subdued. 5. Devoid of frivolity, exaggeration, or speculative imagination. For reference, Intoxicate, from the same source: Intoxicate: 1. To bring about, esp. by the effect of ingested alcohol, any of a series of progressively deteriorating states ranging from exhiliration to stupefaction. 2. To excite or stimulate. 3. To poison. You will notice, with the inclusion of esp., it also means "not only alcohol." From dictionary.com: so·ber Audio Help /ˈsoʊbər/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[soh-ber] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation adjective, -er, -est, verb –adjective 1. not intoxicated or drunk. 2. habitually temperate, esp. in the use of liquor. 3. quiet or sedate in demeanor, as persons. 4. marked by seriousness, gravity, solemnity, etc., as of demeanor, speech, etc.: a sober occasion. 5. subdued in tone, as color; not gay or showy, as clothes. 6. free from excess, extravagance, or exaggeration: sober facts. 7. showing self-control: sober restraint. 8. sane or rational: a sober solution to the problem From thefreedictionary.com: so·ber (sbr) adj. so·ber·er, so·ber·est 1. Habitually abstemious in the use of alcoholic liquors or drugs; temperate. 2. Not intoxicated or affected by the use of drugs. 3. Plain or subdued: sober attire. 4. Devoid of frivolity, excess, exaggeration, or speculative imagination; straightforward: gave a sober assessment of the situation. 5. Marked by seriousness, gravity, or solemnity of conduct or character. See Synonyms at serious. 6. Marked by circumspection and self-restraint From Encarta: so·ber [ sṓbər ] adjective (comparative so·ber·er, superlative so·ber·est) Definition: 1. not intoxicated: not under the influence of drugs or alcohol 2. tending not to drink: not in the habit of drinking much alcohol or using drugs 3. serious: serious and thoughtful in demeanor or quality a sober face 4. dull: lacking vitality or brightness in appearance He always dresses in sober colors. 5. not fanciful or speculative: based on facts and rational thinking rather than on speculation a sober assessment of the situation And since we are after all part of an informal community, the top definition from urbandictionary.com, at 374 thumbs up to 25 down (number two is 119 up and 71 down): 1. sober 374 up, 25 down A state in which you are not under the influence of any intoxicating substance. When you aren't drunk, stoned, or tripping. Historically and properly, sober refers to the absence of any intoxicating state. And therefore is proper. (don't forget, alcohol is also technically a drug- it only gets considered differently by lay people because it is so much more widespread) |

| You shouldn't go by dictionary definitions. Remember, all writers are propagandists ![]()
