| Shwag: Is it Marijuana Just Gone Bad? The science behind what makes shwag, shwag? Hi, there I'm Crash. Sometimes we get high and all we want to do is have a good discussion. So here's mine. I'm hoping someone (or couple of you guys) could help me understand why shwag is what it is. We all know it tastes bad, it barely smells, it's brown, it's seedy, but why? Thanks! <3 Crash |

| My guess is that shwag is made through a variety of factors. One could be that it is a less potent strain of cannabis, another is that if there are seeds then more energy was spent on seed production than cannabinoids. The brown could be from problems during drying the cannabis. The bad taste is from all of these, plus it's god's way of telling you to shell out an extra $10 and get some better bud. (I'm no elitist stoner, I've smoked alot of shwag in my time, and will do it again) |

| Schwag is the lowest common denominator of weed. You put some seeds in the ground, give them a minimal amount of care, harvest it early, hang it to dry, crudely strip the weed (including some sticks and leaves) from the plant, and stuff it into a trash compacter to brick it. It sells cheaper than weed that's grown and processed with more care. Some people don't know any better. Some people can't afford any better. Some people just like to smoke a lot. Why do growers produce schwag rather than higher quality weed? Because it's profitable, especially where you can grow fields of the stuff. It sells for less per pound, but you can produce a hell of a lot of pounds without a lot of work.

| Does that mean that the shwag we get could actually be a pretty potent strain if harvested and cared for correctly? I've thought about buying like an eighth of shwag just for the seeds to grow my own the proper way. Is that possible?

| Its hard to tell. With schwag, the plants are often so badly cared for, that its genetic potential (how it'd grow under ideal conditions) is oftentimes a complete mystery. The only way of knowing would be to actually grow the seeds under optimum conditons and hope for the best. You might wind up with some awesome weed, or you might find that the weed just sucks, no matter how well it was cared for. its a total crapshoot

| You could probably take seeds from schwag and grow middies or even KB with it. The biggest difference between KB and schwag is the care put into it. Basically, schwag is grown for weight, and weight = $$$. Schwag is grown in giant fields, with barely any attention given to any single plant. Because we're dealing with big fields, it's usually impossible to cull the males, all of the males, before a lot of the bud gets seeded. Because it's grown for weight, it's also sold as weight. It has to be compressed into brickweed, and it might have to travel many hundred miles. By the time it gets to you, if it wasn't shwag in the first place, it is by now. Quote:

| Schwag - made for volume kb - made for quality the time and car you put into it gets you results in the end, like buzzby said it's easy to grow schwag so you can grow a lot of it and not care about quality you're goal tends to be quantity, now try and grow some Northern lights quality - you will get less and for more work but the quality is better so its a pay off of quality versus volume depends on how much compromise you want to make |

| Seeds- Males werent taken out of the grow field, or at least not early enough. Brown- Shitty drying Non potent- Harvested too early/ too late, bad genetics, and bad care mainly. Compact- Been bricked up to move easily, didnt realize a trash compactor was used though, neat. Taste- No curing was done, that is where all the taste comes from, curing over time. Smell- Same as taste, gotta cure to bring out those elements.
