What you mean is that it's a hydrocarbon, like gasoline, which it is not. It's an alcohol, meaning that it has a hydroxyl group (OH).

Its chemical formula C3H8O.

The 'propyl' part means that there are three C's, the 'iso' part means that the hydroxyl group (OH) is attached to the middle C instead of one of the end C's.

I believe that the LD50 of isopropyl alcohol is around 100ml.

Now, ethyl alcohol/ethanol/booze is C2H6O.
